When you find your real parents, love them just like how you loved us because they were not given a chance to take care of you, they are longing for you. You are stronger than what you are, we do not know what challenges await you. But, we are sure. As your mom and dad, you can surpass all of it. Always remember to be kind. You are the epitome of elegance and kindness, no one can remove that from you. We love you always, thank you for the short time that we had you in our lives. Til we see each other again, Mom and Dad. That was the letter. It broke me into pieces because after all this time, they were not my real parents.

I open Jake's first because I know the others will make me emotional. And of course, he had to call me Baby Hamilton. Dear Baby Hamilton, These last few weeks here have been a bit sh*t, to be honest. I wanted to write you both a letter before you went so you had something to read while you were either travelling or just wanting some comfort from having me pick on you both, but I couldn't get the words out. I speak with your mom and dad a lot, and I remember having to write to Max when he got to the boot camp you were at, so I left my letters with your folks, and they hopefully sent them off.

she replied. “Mom, I need only 24 hours,” I said. “Kai deserves to know, Ty,” she replied curtly. “He will insist on coming,” I countered back. “Don’t break his trust. He is a fully functional, thinking adult. He knows what will be the best for everyone and him. Believe me, a mate’s blessing is all you need to do well in anything. Just trust him, Ty,” Mom said and turned around to leave. “Thank you Mom !” I mumbled and she smiled while turning back and left.

Unexpected. I know he wrote, but for some reason, I felt it resonated to me. Beneath it, scrawled in all caps: "CHORUS NEEDS WORK." Whatever. I swiped then froze. I saw another heading. LETTER TO MY LATE MOM My breath caught. I shouldn't read this. It was private. Wrong. I tapped it anyway. Mom,

Damien nodded. I opened the box. The letters were from my father to my mother. Three of the letters, spanning what appeared to be a period of about eight months — the letters themselves were undated but the postmarks, faded and partly illegible, seemed to be from the year before I was born. They were all written by hand in a careful, slightly formal script, as if they'd been taught to write in a tradition that regarded the act as one to be taken seriously. I didn’t read them out loud.

Her gaze drifted over to me—to my right eye, now a bloody, ruined mess beyond repair. For the first time in eighteen years, I saw something other than disgust in her eyes. A faint flicker of light, trembling and fragile, rose from the ashes deep in my heart. Mom… will you finally look at me? Will you finally feel something for me—even a little pain? With the last of my strength, I reached my hand out toward her. But then, in the next second, a weak whimper came from Alice's hospital bed, "Mom… I'm so cold…"

She hands me a spiral, and I give her a small smile before looking down at the paper. My mind swirls as I try to think of a way to begin. How do you say goodbye to someone who loves you more than they love themselves? How do I convince her to carry on with her life? I take a deep breath and place the pen on the paper. Dear Mom, Thank you for being the best mom a girl could ever ask for. You showered me with love every day of my life. You made me feel complete even when you thought I was missing out. I'm sorry we didn't get more time together. I am sorry my body wasn't strong enough to kill the diseases inside of it. I want you to know I am ready.
