I darkened my brown eyes. Then, looking me in the eye— Were the eyes of Viktor. My reflection's lips twisted into a slow, ruthless smile. Gasping, I staggered back. The mirror broke. My breath was ragged as I startled up. As I wiped perspiration from my forehead, my hands shook. Then I noticed it. The mirror on the other side of the room Broken. I gasped for air. It was only a dream. Was it not?

But there, in that thin crack of a moment, something in her rebelled. It wasn’t big enough to change her life. It was just big enough to make her *hesitate*. She faltered. It was all I needed. I slammed my free hand back against the mirror. Not gently this time. *Break,* I thought. Not the glass. The *image* The mirror exploded into shards of reflection without shattering physically—fragments of me and her and the arena all at wrong angles, all overlaying the real world for a blinding second. Up. Down. Left. Right.

“You’re scaring me.” I pointed toward the mirror, my voice trembling. “She’s… she’s not me.” He followed my gaze, frowning. “There’s nothing there.” The reflection laughed silently, eyes glinting like liquid silver. Then, before my eyes, it reached out and pressed its palm against the inside of the glass. A faint shimmer spread outward like ripples on water. The mirror moved. A pulse of light burst through the room. I screamed as Damien grabbed me, pulling me away just as a crack sliced down the center of the glass. The sound of breaking was deafening.

I said. She didn't answer. She just stared back at me with those broken eyes, mocking me. She was a twisted reflection of everything I'd lost and everything I'd let touch me. Killian, Vincent. All of it. Tears blurred my vision. My fingers clenched tighter around the glass. I raised it without thinking and hauled it at the silver surface of the mirror. A test tube has just rolled off the counter in front of me, and it was heading towards the floor. My realization was too slow as I watched Nathan stretch out his hand. Miraculously, I saw the delicate glass barrel dance across his reaching fingertips. It bounced, as if playing keep-away. Then it disappeared from his grasp. The sound of the tube shattering sounded like a gunshot in my ears. It was followed by the most horrifying sound I’d ever heard. Instantly, I felt something grab me by the hood, and this time, it wasn’t Natha

With that he motions for my brother and he and Wilder exit my room closing the door. I get up and walk to my bathroom pausing only to look in the bathroom mirror. I wince at the reflection. My cheeks moist from the tears, my eyes bloodshot and puffy and my curly light brown hair in a mess on my heads. I take another deep breath back away from the mirror, remove my clothes and turn on the shower letting the cold water wake me further until the water turns warm soothing my sore muscles.
