I know flattery will never win you over, for you’re far too wild for that,” he purrs, far too excitedly for my taste. “And might I add, that’s exactly how I prefer it.” His mischievous sneer grows. He’s quite the bold, cocky bat today. “Oh, just scram! And while you’re at it, fuck yourself, you clearly need it,” I cackle defiantly.

"Then tell me so that I can understand." "Our secret is one that you are incapable of understanding. Even if I were to tell you, you wouldn't believe me, and I wouldn't be surprised. So, why waste time speaking a conversation when I already know how it'll end?" "Because I don't know how it'll end. And I doubt you do either, I'm not a man that someone like you could easily understand." I glared, and he laughed once again, that same, dry, humourless laugh that sounded like he'd forgotten how to truly laugh.

Silence. Too long. Too careful. That was answer enough. “…you don’t know either,” I said quietly. He didn’t respond. Didn’t deny it. Didn’t confirm it. But I saw it. In his eyes. That uncertainty. That calculation. That this is worse than we thought. A dry laugh slipped out of me before I could stop it. “Great.” Not funny. Didn’t feel funny. But it came out anyway. Because what else was I supposed to do?

He rasped dryly as Lord Brarthroroz chuckled heartily and dismissed him with a gesture. Lexi frowned at his retreating back as he seemed to glide down the corridor to an unknown destination. "He's really no fun to tease at all.." She complained. "Yes... you find with Lich's, they don't really seem to grasp humor as well as the living." Lord Brarthroroz answered with a sigh. "It's not his fault, another century or so and he may crack smile. One can hope.." He sighed. Ann looked between the two of them and a small smile played at the edges of her mouth as she chuckled at Adam's incredulous expression.

"All pale and transparent." I laughed. "Boo hoo," I said, smirking. Her expression twisted in confusion. "What is wrong with you?" Oh, she was actually being mean. I really needed to get a grip on this pack’s humor—it flipped from dark and sarcastic to nonexistent in the blink of an eye. "Oh, sorry, I thought you were joking," I said. "Considering you look like a joke, I didn’t realize I was supposed to take you seriously." Oh, it was on.

Then Liora snorted, covering her mouth. Her shoulders started to shake, and before I could process it, she was laughing a full, unrestrained, beautiful laughter. “It’s not funny,” I said, staring at her in disbelief. “I know,” she gasped between laughs. “That’s why it’s perfect. It’s so bad, it’s actually good.” I shook my head, smiling despite myself. “You’re laughing at the dryness of my joke?” “Exactly,” she said, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. “You sound like someone who hasn’t laughed in years, so it’s even funnier.”

His mouth opened, but no sound came out. I smiled then—slow, cold, and completely devoid of humor. “And you just made the biggest mistake of your pathetic life.”

He was about to protest when I quickly opened up one ice-cream cup and shoved a spoonful into his mouth, making him swallow his words alongside the ice cream. Lily bursted out a muffled chuckle as she saw him swallow the ice cream silently. Her laugh made me burst out laughing too. Drax kept a straight face, staring at us coldly. Although, I don't know he couldn't take practical jokes, or he didn't laugh because it was probably one of the things that triggered his wolfing out— But still... Come on. That shit was funny as fuck. You have to give me credit— His dead eyes oscillated between the both of us like a moving pendulum, without a trail of emotion in his face.

I told him desperately wanting to know what I did wrong. “Oh, you should stop talking to sort out all the problems!” He said very seriously that somehow made me laugh. I know I have a big mouth. He is being sarcastic. I love this Arjun, funny and sarcastic. But I stopped laughing when I didn't hear him laugh with me.
