My heart softens instantly. “Mama!” he yells, running to me as soon as I step out of the car. “Hey, bug,” I say, scooping him into a hug. “What’s that you’ve got there?” “My drawing!” Liam says proudly, unfolding it for me to see. It’s a colorful crayon picture of me, my parents, and Liam, all holding hands under a big yellow sun. But there’s an empty space on one side of the page.

The twins cheered, and Ethan stood up, his eyes meeting Scarlett's briefly before he looked away, his expression unreadable. After a while, Emily got on her feet, her eyes shining with excitement. "Mommy, Daddy, I want to draw you both!" she exclaimed, pulling out her crayons and paper. Scarlett and Ethan exchanged a glance, both of them trying to hide their emotions. "That sounds like a great idea, sweetie," Scarlett said, trying to sound casual. Emily began to draw, her tongue sticking out in concentration. She drew a big house with a sun shining down, and two stick figures standing side by side. She colored one figure with long hair, and the other with a big smile.

She tilted her head. It was the exact same gesture Aurora used when reviewing a blueprint. "Most children at this age draw symbols," Ms. Elena said. "A circle for a head. Sticks for legs. Hope is drawing... feeling." She handed Aurora a sheet of paper. It was dry. "She did this one ten minutes ago. We asked them to paint 'happy'." Aurora took the paper. It wasn't a smiley face. It wasn't a sun. It was a burst of yellow and orange, radiating outward from a center point. It looked like an explosion. Or a sunrise. It was vibrant, chaotic, and undeniably emotional.

For a little guy, he is way too good. There are all different kinds of drawings that are too neat, I shuffle through them, trying to find one to stick on our fridge in the kitchen. I smile to myself when I come across a picture of him and I then there's Jasmine and even Alex, with and without devil horns— that makes me laugh. I pass by other boyish things, like cars, dragons, dogs, dinosaurs and ninjas, lots and lots of them.

From the drawing, it's lunch break and students are milling about around me but I'm standing there, looking stuck and feeling exhausted from the healing process. My eyes are a muddy brown but my lips are stretched out in a wide smile. My shoulders are slumped but my nostrils are flared like I'm angry and my fists are clenched so tightly, it's like I'm trying not to go wild. Like I'm trying to rein in my demons. And I don't even remember this. “These drawings are incredible, Jeremy.” “I should know, I made them and they're called outlines.” I slap his chest playfully, “Show a little gratitude.”

Then she texted back. "It was the least I could do" Sky texted along with a smiley face emoji. Jame was already falling asleep till he heard the notification. He checked his phone and saw Sky's reply. He got excited quickly and responded. "How was today?" He texted. "I tried to make it out of Jade's madness" Sky texted with a rolling eye emoji. "What are these circly yellowish faces you text back with?" Jake texted. "Oh my God, Jake they are emojis" Sky texted along with a laughing-hard emoji.

(End of flashback) I traced out an outline of a dress on the new page of my sketchpad, my creativity coming to life as my pencil danced across the large page rapidly. I visualised Lola's physique as I drew. I had to admit she had the body of a model, which made it easier to draw. As I began to outline the dress, my phone rang and I picked it up. It was an unsaved contact "Hello?" "Emily. It's always a pleasure to hear your beautiful voice" I rolled my eyes. Of course it had to be Max and his weird greetings. "Hi, Max", I replied awkwardly, scratching the back of my neck after placing my pencil on the sketchpad.

I ask, stroking her hair. "I’m fine, sis! I missed you." "I was also missing you, my princess." the strong hug, feeling my heart tight. "I made a drawing, want to see?" "Of course I do!" Emily pulls me by the arm, leading me to the classroom. "Here it is!" she takes a paper on the table and hands it to me. The design is a beautiful picture of a house with garden and a smiling sun in the upper corner." I designed this house for us to live together when you come to get me. Harp, will it take long?

I heard Jazmine say to me, I smiled at her, she is actually a lovely person and working with her has been amazing so far, I even got to learn that she is Ignacio’s sister. “I’m not hungry at the moment,” I said and she sat next to me, she stared at me and then chuckled. “Why are you laughing?” I asked, she smiled. I immediately covered what I was doing on my book. “What are you always drawing? You are always busy with your sketch book.” She said, I nodded. “I love drawing at times, it’s a way for me to express my emotions.” I said and she smiled. “Can you show me some of your drawings? I’d love to see them.” She said and I nodded no with a grin on my face.

Ace chimed in, his eyes shining with pride. I couldn't help but smile at their infectious energy, feeling a warmth spread through my heart. Pushing aside my worries for a moment, I shifted my focus to them, eager to see their creations. "That's wonderful, sweeties! Let me see." I beckoned them closer, and they eagerly rushed over, holding their drawings into my hands. Luna's drawing shown a colorful garden scene, complete with flowers, butterflies, and a shining sun, while Ace's featured a tall tree laden with apples, surrounded by smiling stick-figure people.
