What I learned about Enzo was that he acted based on who was in front of him. At school, he was giddy, cheerful, and childish. Around Kurt and me, he turned mature—caring and protective. When he was with their staff, he became friendly yet authoritative. He looked cool when he acted like that. I used to think he was just dumb. He reminded me a lot of Hank. I’ve been wondering why I hate him, and I think I finally figured it out—

His days were numbered and I think we were on the lower end of those days now. Enzo was a different story. Enzo was a maniac. Enzo would be just craziness to live like a cockroach. Everyone would try to kill him. He had no allies, no real loyalty, nothing. He didn’t need it though. Thriving on the fact that he would destroy anything and everything including himself for his goals. Enzo should not be allowed free let alone alive. The problem with that was that he would take as many people with him. That wasn’t something I could do. Not seeing how Marek was with his family. I’d brought enough upheaval in his life and family.

Bianca's laughter still lingered in the air of Mamadi's Pizza, but inside her veins the rhythm had changed. She couldn't drag her gaze away from Enzo. The man who should have been swallowed by Virenkai's graveyard of betrayals, now stood pouring smoothies as if death had been a costume he'd merely slipped out of. Enzo looked leaner, harder, his cheekbones shadowed with hunger and secrets. His eyes those dark, bottomless pits lifted and caught hers.

“Then why am I here?” Enzo’s smirk faded, replaced by a glimmer of something darker. “Because I intend to bring Derulo down. And you, Alejandro…” his voice dropped, cold as steel, “…you are going to help me take my revenge.” Alejandro laughed dryly. “You’ve chosen the wrong man.” But Enzo only chuckled, finishing his wine before setting the glass on the nightstand. “No,” he said with dangerous certainty. “I’ve chosen exactly who I need.” He straightened, moving toward the door. Alejandro’s eyes followed him, trying to piece together the layers behind those words. Enzo becomes busy playing on the table with his toys, a small dragon and a knight, making them battle each other with gleeful shouts.
