I opened my mouth, fumbling for an excuse, but Hugo turned toward Enzo instead, who wore a scowl like it had been carved into his face.
“You carry on from here, Lorenzo. I’ll find my way,” Hugo said, waving him off with a subtle flick of his cane.
“Are you sure, Padrino?” Enzo asked.

“Oh yes. You’ve got work to do,” Hugo replied with finality.
Enzo gave a stiff bow and shot me one last murderous glare before walking off. If looks could kill, I’d be six feet under by now.
“Come, my dear,” Hugo groaned, tapping his cane against the floor.
