I fell backwards and that was when I realized I was starting to move to the tip of the cliff. I slipped. My scream broke through the air as I caught my fingers on the stony cliff. As my wrists scratched against the floors, I felt the sharp edge of the cliff tear through my skin. My breathing became heavy as I tried to keep hanging on to the thin thread called this cliff.

I ran towards the edge of the cliff, hearing the men's shouts behind me. "No!" Tyler shouted, but it was too late. With one last look back, I jumped off the cliff, feeling the air around me as I fell. I didn't know what awaited me below, but anything was better than going back to Tyler's clutches. I closed my eyes, waiting for the impact as the world around me turned into a whirlwind of wind and darkness. But luckily, I managed to grab onto a vine that was attached to a huge tree, and I was able to hide behind its leaves.

My feet slid backward on stone and the world turned upside down. I screamed as wind tore the sound out of my mouth. When my feet hit dirt, it wasn’t cold and smooth like the cave floor. It was rough. Dry. Grainy. I stumbled forward blindly and nearly fell. I looked down. There was nothing under me. Nothing. Just a black, endless fall. My heart slammed into my throat. “SHIT—” I pivoted and threw myself backward, stumbling away from the cliff’s edge as my legs shook violently beneath me.
