Fang grabbed my body off the ground and tore off the gown that was pooling on the ground and dropped me on the bed, my body bouncing. I asked them as I too sat down and began to read. “One book builds up to a way that they can be killed, but then abruptly changes the subject on the next page. I thought that maybe it had been taken out, but I can’t see any damage to the pages.” One piped up from the couch. “Well, what does it tell us?” He adjusted his reading glasses on his nose as he flipped back to a bookmark. “There are pictures of the Lycans being stabbed and burned; so maybe their weakness is fire?”

I sat on my bed and leaned on the headboard before taking a deep breath. I wasn’t being delusional. I saw it, I saw that his eyes turned red for a second. I just shook my head and tried to get it out of my head. I got the book that I borrowed from the library. I remembered that this book was from Zion, the one he said I’ll like. The main character was a female vampire who had just gotten off of her transition. I’ve read some pages and I stopped when I realized something. Some of the information was familiar to me. I went back to the other pages to read it again.

“Can you… can you see her? Standing there?” He frowns, distracted by the sudden break in my voice. “See who? You’re staring at the biographies.” I point a trembling finger directly at the space by the bookshelf, at the horrific thing that shouldn’t possibly exist in the waking world. But the space is completely empty now. She is gone. My pulse races frantically. “She was right there! A woman! Half—” Roman cuts me off immediately, his expression shifting from confusion to sudden, sharp alarm. He reaches quickly into his slacks pocket, pulls out a clean white napkin, and presses it forcefully against my nose.

Various theories have the library being built there by aliens, by a civilization ten thousand years old, or by a race of vampires. Caitlin let the book fall from her lap, her mouth open in shock, and it landed with a thump on the floor. She sat straight up, feeling a jolt. She suddenly felt wide awake, as if she had just lost all sense of time and place. Closing my eyes shut, I tried listening to her heartbeat from the dark alley that I was in. I decided to hunt at a place closer to her apartment hoping that'll make me feel better.
