“I didn’t put you in this situation. Fate did.” Her laugh was sharp, biting. “Convenient excuse. You and Kade both seem to think you can use ‘fate’ as a leash to drag me wherever you want.” A growl rose in my throat at the mention of my twin. Kade. The other alpha. My rival in every sense of the word. “No, Aria,” I said, stepping even closer. “Fate isn’t a leash—it’s a bond. One you feel just as deeply as I do. Like time itself was chasing us, and it was gaining on us. “Come here.” She said, beckoning me with her finger. I walked towards her, my chest tightening with every step. Her tone was serious. I nodded. With the motivation of cookies and muffins, I hovered my hand over the cards. I did not rush it even though my tummy was aching for the promised muffins. The things I do for food. I picked one and without flipping it over I placed it aside. I did the same with three others. When she saw I was done she put the others into a deck and placed them on the side. She then flipped the first card I picked out. It was upright, facing me.
