Arian's pov I never thought a book club meeting could feel like a battlefield. Today, we are reading The Art of Forbidden by Linda Lively, and from the very moment I flipped through its pages, my face had been hot. The story is about a powerful president who was secretly in love with his male secretary, and if that wasn’t bold enough, the prose was filled with intimacy, longing, and heat. Naturally, everyone thought it would be for people to take turns reading aloud. But I wasn't really in the mood to read, not after what the police said to me.

Could someone so caring really be mean, and dishonest? His gaze finally lifted from the book and fell upon her, his expression softened and a smile touched his mouth. The sentence he’d been reading stopped as he scanned her length. Fluttering sensations swept through her, and the new emotion turned her mouth dry, but the palms of her hands moistened. Her numb mind wouldn’t allow her to think of a single word to say in greeting.

"So things are going well? You're happy?" "I'm so happy," I admitted. "It's so weird because every time I leave one of them, I feel sad. But as soon as I'm with another one, I'm excited. And there's no difference in how I feel about them. I'm still trying to understand how all these feelings can fit in my heart." She smiled widely, looking like she would explode. "I can't wait to read the tell-all book," she joked. "That'll be steamy as hell!"

Elle looked away from him and fixed her gaze on the book "I can't see it" she said and placed her hand on the book "but I can feel it" a smile lit up on her face, as she caressed the book softly, feeling its warm and comforting energy underneath her fingers.

Zoe stared at the book, her fingers hovering over its worn cover, tracing the cracks in the leather and the faint symbols etched into its spine. It felt… alive. Not in a way she could explain, but there was something ancient about it—something that pulsed beneath the surface, waiting to be uncovered. The Book of Life, her heart raced, every answer she had been searching for… could be inside.

And it meant everything. She tucked one foot beneath her, the familiar fabric grounding her as she glanced down at the book again. The margin notes. The faint crease on the cover. The ghost of someone else’s love for it, layered now with her own. “I haven’t felt like myself in a long time,” she admitted, surprised by how easily the words came. How ready they were. “Like I’ve been… dimmed. Muted. But this..” Her fingers pressed against the cover. “This makes me feel like pieces of her are coming back.”
