Silence dropped hard except for the snarls and the scuffle of shoes against polished floors. And then…just like in some horror movie, the lights flickered. Not once, and not twice. Then a full blackout, the chandeliers above cutting off for half a second before surging back weakly, the glow uneven, shadows crawling across the marble. “What the hell?” Someone muttered. That’s when I saw him.

I rolled my eyes at her and placed the remote control at the center table. “Could you stop it, Sid? Why would you throw the remote? It’s not that I’m taking sides but I am more concerned with the remote. What if you got it destroyed. Do you have money to replace it?” I got more irritated as Daya stocked her tongue out at me.
