I sat curled in the overstuffed leather reading chair beneath one of the arched windows, the letter still pressed deep in the pocket of my coat, even though I’d read it so many times the edges were frayed.

Although she felt the need to rest after several hours of searching, however, she figured the books in the shelf appeared scathless and well positioned. “Why put it here when you wouldn't read it.” she spoke under her breath, a flash of curiosity glinted in her eyes as she moved closer to it. After all, Karl was away from home and wouldn't return any time soon. The thought increased her confidence level and in a split second she randomly took out one. ‘Chronicles of torment’ it read, Karl had initially buried its identity among others. Her finger flipped the pages cursorily, only to behold bizarre images of devices used to torture people.

It wasn't until she noticed the strange book tucked away in the corner that she was able to distract herself from her thoughts. "I almost missed one," she whispered. As she walked over to it, she noticed that its cover was worn, and it seemed to emit a faint glow that caught her attention. Maybe it's how the moon perfectly acted as its own spotlight that made it seem so glowy, but it's not just that. She somehow felt a little hint of amusement as she stared at it. As she approached the book, she saw the shinny title written on it, Lunaria, and she couldn't help but be intrigued. The moonlight shining down on the pages illuminated the words in a way that made them seem to come alive.

I wandered through the aisles, running my fingers along the spines, feeling a sense of belonging I hadn't felt in a long time. I spent the whole day there, completely lost among the books, reading story after story until I lost track of time. One book caught my attention "The Adventures of Sir Flufftail" a ridiculous but absolutely hilarious story about a brave and very dramatic rabbit knight who went on quests to save stolen carrot cakes from mischievous squirrels.

Chapter 1 Lily’s POV The door to Professor Harlan’s office clicked shut behind me and cut off the quiet hallway completely. My heart pounded so hard I could feel it in my throat and in my ears all at once. I stood there gripping the strap of my backpack so tight my knuckles hurt while my legs shook under me.
