I turned in the direction of the noise but saw nothing. " It was probably something in the cafeteria," I said to myself as I shrugged and turned right down another hall full of lockers. Halfway down this hall were two big metal doors that lead to the gym. The smell of old and musk filled my nose as I got closer. It was more like a bad foot odor, one that was pungent and left staleness in the air. I don't get why gyms always smell of feet, I thought as I scrunched up my nose trying not to inhale the foul odor.

Lilith's POV The parking garage smelled like gasoline and regret. My feet were killing me. Ronan's slides were way too big for my feet and every step felt like I was walking through mud, the rubber soles slapping against the concrete in this weird rhythm that was starting to drive me insane. I stopped walking and kicked the right one off my foot, watching it slide a few feet away. "I can't walk in these anymore. They're heavy and my heel is bleeding."

My mind immediately flashed to the way Simon, Jack, and Beth had looked earlier, how they had been out of breath, and the fear in their eyes. Running in the snow barefoot had left the soles of our feet raw. “Lucky for you girls, I am not just a shoe salesmen, I am also the town’s podiatrist.” The shopkeeper said as he came out of the back room with a bag of supplies. “Around these parts, its not uncommon for people to get frostbite or other injuries in the winter. Now lets have a look.” He spent several minutes working on each of our feet, cleaning, then massaging ointment into them and finally wrapping them in a thin wrap.
