That wrecked him. He limped toward me, reaching for my hand. I stepped back like it was nothing. "Mister, keep this up and I'm calling the cops." His eyes were wild, voice cracking as he yelled, "I don't believe you forgot me! Rhea, you said forever! I only forgot you because of that temporary amnesia—but I remember now! I know you're the one I love!" I laughed. Hard. What a clown. Acting like some tragic lover. Would he have "remembered" so fast if I hadn't walked away for good? Doubt it. He'd still be playing house with Juliet and her stupid little props.

"Why is your phone not connecting?" Before I could answer, he continued, "Anyway, I've got the holiday prep all sorted. Anything else you want? I'll have my assistant grab it." His words triggered a memory: the year Mamie died. I'd gone home, but on Christmas Eve, I video-called him to wish him happy holidays. It took ages for him to answer; the screen was dark at first, showing only a fading ember from his cigarette. "Yeah?" he rasped. As the screen adjusted to the light, I saw he was alone on the balcony, surrounded by scattered bottles and cigarette butts. Outside, the world was alive with lights and fireworks, but that joy seemed worlds away from him.

Even the few accomplishments I was allowed to take credit for had been forgotten in an instant, as if erased from memory. And for every failure of his that I had quietly taken responsibility for, no one remembered or acknowledged my sacrifice. He had kept me by his side all this time not out of love but because I was efficient. Because he couldn’t afford to lose control over someone like me—someone who worked for him without question, without reward or freedom.

"Jason darling, don't act like you forgot who I am just because you got rich. I remember that red mole on your ass clear as day." Sarah's brain seemed to short-circuit. Time stopped. Then she turned slowly and backhanded Yvonne so hard she hit the floor. Yvonne lay there, blood streaming from her nose. She looked up and saw Sarah coming toward her. She scrambled to her feet and ran. Everyone in the room turned back to me. I stood as straight as I could, but I couldn't stop shaking. "I have nothing to do with her. You can investigate. You can—"

Mark said pretty much excited and before I could say no, he was out of sight, "Hmm" I sighed softly,I miss her, I missed her so much. If wishes were horses, if only wishes were horses. Almost forgetting, there was no food at home. ***

Amara couldn’t stop glancing at the book. She’d tried ignoring it tried burying herself in work, her morning runs, her quiet evenings with tea and half-read novels. But every time she passed that table, her gaze landed there. Finally, one evening, she gave in. She opened the first page and froze. There, scrawled faintly in pencil at the top corner, were words she recognized immediately. His handwriting again. Small. Careful. Hesitant. “To remember what I forgot to say.” That was it.

My fingers caressed the colored notes in my hands and the familiar feeling of longing overwhelmed me. FLASHBACK NARRATIVE ~16 years ago~ *Aidan's Elementary School* A little boy ran into the class of about fifteen kids. "Y'all!" He called the attention of his mates. "I heard 'boo hoo' couldn't get his fees paid. Boo-hoo!" He went to stand in front of a petite boy of around the same age as himself, blocking the little boy's view and taking his books from him.

Yet Ama knew who it was. Knew with complete certainty. Herself. The memory expanded. The woman stopped writing. Looked toward the doorway. And smiled sadly. As though saying goodbye to someone. Then she spoke. The words echoed across Ama's mind. “You'll forget this.” Silence. Ama felt her pulse hammering. The memory continued. The woman closed the book. Placed a hand on the cover. And whispered: “But you'll come back.” The vision shattered. Ama gasped.

Hehe… Another reason was, because my memories seemed to vanish little by little. I’m afraid that one day, I wake up without any memories of you. I didn’t know about you, I forget about you. So, I need things to remind me of you. Even though maybe some day the goddess of fate will take all of my memories of you from my mind, my heart will remember it. Just like this letter, this book, this house, and Ben. I hope you find me in your next life. Once again, Thank you Kevin. I love you…
