Wind smashed through the windows, shattering them in an eternal instant. Time seemed to slow as I watched myself in horror. Each splinter became a crack, which spread like streams carving through stone and dirt, widening into rivers and sea-mouths. Then the shards exploded outwards, glinting as they caught the light, winking at me smugly as they spun out into the air beyond. I was breaking this life, just as surely as I’d ripped apart the pieces of my human one. I thought about Suze, about Luna, about Ollie, about Ella, and every time my heart beat it was for all of them.

But every time he thought of those indecent photos, and every time he looked at his home that was missing its mistress, the pain in his chest became too much to bear. He was afraid he would break if he stepped inside. But after a week, intense and endless longing filled his every thought. He had no choice but to seek comfort in the remnants of past happiness. When they stepped into the chamber and saw the mutilated tapestries inside, Liam's face went deathly pale. He frantically grabbed the tapestries and turned them over one by one. In a panicked voice, he muttered, "No… No, this can't be. It's impossible! Where's Mom?"

Another distortion flashed suddenly beside them. Elaine froze briefly. She saw another version of Lily crying beside a hospital bed. Another Adrian is screaming. Another version of herself— Dead. The image vanished instantly. Elaine nearly stumbled. Lily caught her arm sharply. “Don’t look at them!” “What are they?!” “Fragments!” Lily’s voice shook now, too. “The timelines are bleeding together!” The ground trembled violently beneath them again.
