When I comb the final section without a single tug or snag, she gives me a toothy grin over her shoulder. “You did a really good job.” I beam at her. “Thank you. That is a very kind thing to say. Now do you want me to put it up for you?” She nods, and I can feel her excitement as her gesture turns into a little dance. “Can you do two braids?” She runs her hands over her scalp, and I realize that she's telling me she wants two French braids. “Let's see if I can, hmm? But first, I'm going to need you off this counter.”

She’d pulled over another chair for me, and I dragged it closer to the mirror and sat down beside her. “Pretty good,” I said. “What kind of style are you thinking?” “Maybe like… a side swept braid? Could you do that?” “Sure,” I smiled, and took my place behind her. I took sections of her hair, and she passed me up her comb. “I can lay my own edges,” she said, looking up at me in the mirror. “But I really struggle doing my own French braids.” “I feel you,” I grinned. “My mum taught me how to braid years ago, but my hair isn’t as textured as yours is, so I think it’s a bit easier to do by myself. I still struggle with the back, though.”

I had a date to attend. I combed my hair, noting that it was a little unruly since I had slept with it still wet yesterday. To tame it, I decided to put it in a french braid, starting on the left side of my head, wrapping around the back and spilling over my right shoulder in a loose, messy configuration of strawberry blonde hair.

She turned her head to see the rest of it and the complexity of the braid astounded her. "Wow, is right! Where did you learn to do this?" Marie blushed and smiled. "I saw it once in a magazine and always wanted to have my hair done up like that, but I couldn't find anyone to do it; it's called a 'full fishbone braid'. So, I did it for you. Well, and me too. I love the way it makes you look. It makes your neck look longer and more graceful, and I can see those cute ears now. You have no idea how hard it was for me to not kiss the back of your neck or suck on your earlobes. AH-EH! I'm not pushing; I'm just stating a fact. I told myself that I would always tell you the truth about how I felt. S

His black tee showed off his enormous chest and he had intricate tats on one arm. “Permission to help her, sir?” I was grateful to Susan but this was something I knew how to do. “No need,” I said, and proceeded to show off my skill by forming a Dutch crown braid. “Isn’t that a bit elaborate?” one of the women asked. “It’s awesome,” another said. “And not what I asked for.” Alpha Calvin sounded impatient now. “But more practical,” I argued. “Did I ask you to speak, pet?” “You’re for it now, girl,” Oscar said.

Aleena smiled, twirling a piece of her hair that had fallen out of messy braids. "Would you like me to French braid your hair to make it pretty?" Asked Sarah. She guessed her daughter hadn't taken out the previous braids she had done a few days ago since she was almost eight, she had refused to let anyone touch her hair or brush it. That resulted in two months of knots before her mother sat her down and chopped all of her hair off.

I stand up and considering that it was already 6, I decided to just go and start getting ready. I put on my dark jeans and my favourite white blouse, not too much, just enough so that I don't look like I don't care. Then, I put on mascara and actually braid my hair for the first time in forever; two french braids on each side. By the time I'm done, it's 15 to 7, and I'm getting slightly worried. I thought we was just going to smoke a cigarette, but he's taking too long.

Jewels were attached and I had keep my hands steady so they didn't end up falling off. The stylist arrived and this woman went straight to work. No greetings, there wasn't a single 'hi' I heard from her. She just placed a book on my thighs and told me to pick whichever one I wanted. I went through it and saw the length of my hair wasn't enough to do most of them and I didn't want any type of extensions so I just told her to do whatever was okay for my type of hair. She then said something in French in didn't understand and I just nodded in response.

Curls would allow him to move his fingers freely – if we got around to it – but they don't look like they're gonna happen for me tonight. Instead, I think back to my conversation with Leighton and remember what she said about a fishtail braid. Because I wear it on a regular basis, it doesn't take me long to do it. The look, however, gives the impression that it took hours to create. I have layers, and not all of them will go in neatly. A few well-placed bobby pins and I'm good to go.

I put a little bit of makeup on. Not too much; I didn’t want to look cheap, desperate, or easy!
