"He's going to be drooling when he sees you, babe, I swear. I like what you did to your hair too, it's pretty." I run my hand over my braided hair and smile. Being black comes with many beautiful advantages. One of them is our natural, rich, thick hair. I went to the saloon and styled them into four big braids, two small ones in between the big ones at the front so it falls on my face, right on top of the two bridges of nose. I use some of my hair accessories to decorate the hair and stare at myself in the mirror once more. "Do you think it's too much?" My anxiety creeps in. My smile turns into a frown, my lips puckering as I stared at myself again. Janelle scoffs behind me.

The braid turned out amazing, even with the short, bumpy drive. The only down side is that some bruises were visible since I didn’t cover anything on my neck, hoping my hair would cover it.

The top crowned braid joined together in the middle to become one larger braid, where she had added more of my hair to get it out of my face and to thicken the braid. With other braids that formed the second crown, she braided them individually where they met at the back of my head, so it highlighted the larger braid that sat in the middle of the two little braids. She added a couple of smaller braids on either side of my head for maximum security to keep my hair out of the way, leaving whatever was left of my hair to flow naturally.

I scolded them. "Ma'am, if you are done with the dress, then please grab a seat so that we can start your make-up.", The beautician said, to which I nodded. "What kind of design do you want with your hair?", She asked, on which I looked clueless. Since Saira had long hair, she was going to have a messy voluminous princess braid with ringlets, and Ashley was going to try a fishtail braid covered with mogras. "Umm…I don't know.", I muttered in confusion because my hair was shoulder length only. I doubt that I could try any of the styles which Ash and Saira had picked.

After this, I may just give her the dress, as I would never be able to do the dress justice after seeing Rylee in it. Rylee did our hair and make-up. Rylee typically sported beautifully braided hair. However, for the event, Rylee decided to put her hair up in a low bun, using her braids to give it extra elegance. Rylee had curled my hair, choosing to keep the look simple, applying an intricate waterfall braid to make it more elegant. I was impressed with her ability to do our hair. It must be her surgical skills coming to play, as every braid was utter perfection.

I couldn't wait to find out what this new term had in store for us all. Everyone had settled their differences and we spent the whole day spending time with each other after we got back from the salon after getting our hairs done. I got mini nape-length braids while Rose got knotless braids at nape length too and Ruby had hers in Ghana weaving style at mid-back length.

I plait mine up in five three strand braids. I have never thought about this before, but as I watch Sven do his in a single five-strand braid, I wonder if this is how my mother’s people do their hair. Tying each braid off at the crown of my head, I let the rest of my hair hang loose.
