The air was heavy, as if even the night itself knew that something was brewing.
Ann stood beside her, scanning the surroundings with a wary gaze. “Looks quiet.”
“Too quiet,” Lisa muttered under her breath. She approached the gate, feeling a sense of urgency clawing at her insides. Pressing the intercom button, she spoke into it. “It’s Lisa. Let me in.”
There was a brief pause before the voice on the other end crackled to life. “Hold on.”
The gate slowly swung open, and Lisa wasted no time walking through, her eyes darting around for any sign of trouble.
