He buttons his blazer slowly, his smile never wavering.
“What does it look like I’m doing?” he says, his voice calm, almost teasing. “A simple gesture. A gentleman sees a lady shopping, he pays the bill. Isn’t that tradition?”
Bianca’s laugh is short, brittle, and humorless. “A gentleman?” She folds her arms, her diamond bracelet glinting under the boutique lights. “You’re many things, Wade, but let’s not insult words by twisting them into masks they’ll never wear.”
He tilts his head, unbothered by the insult. “Harsh. I’ll take that as your way of saying thank you.”
