The next morning, Meg woke up alone in bed, the room empty and silent. She lay still for long minutes, trying to convince herself that she wasn’t dreaming. I just wished for her to give me back that same love I was feeling for her. As a simple tear rolled down my cheek, I let sleep take over, whispering goodnight to the darkness that accompanied us.

How can a person sleep for this much goddamn time? "I told you I'll make everything right ." I smiled softly on her expressionless face. "Please wake up love. I miss you. I don't think I can live like this for too long. You know that I need you, right? Why are you making me wait for so long ?" I sighed. Holding back my tears. I can't always cry. It will make me weak. "Rest as much as you want. I won't let you once you wake up ." I kissed the back of her hand and admired her for some time before going out.

Pushing those thoughts aside, knowing they wouldn't lead anywhere good, I pulled her closer, kissed her temple, and breathed in the familiar scent of her hair mixed with the night-blooming flowers drifting in from the balcony. "I love you," I murmured against her skin. "I love you too," she replied sleepily, snuggling closer against my chest. Soon her breathing deepened, steady and peaceful, and I knew she'd fallen asleep. I stayed awake a little longer, staring out toward the balcony where Ginger slept quietly beneath the stars of the southern hemisphere, thinking about family, the future, and the quiet, complicated weight of real love.

Me: "Hey love, how was your day. I just wanted to tell you that I love you so much and I miss you, have a good night rest love." My eyes were barely open as I typed out the text and immediately I sent it, I plugged my phone and it wasn't long before I slept off.

Linking my arm with Sylvia's, I said, "Let's go, Sylvia. We shouldn't keep Grandma waiting." Astrea chimed in, "That's right. I specially asked them to prepare your favorite dish tonight." The three of us walked past Juliet, still exchanging banter. I could feel her intense gaze following me until I disappeared through the door. I had proven to her that my life was better without her. And I would not trade it for anything.
