“It’s not a joke, Rae. Your studio isn’t safe. This place would be bigger and safer.” The mascot took that moment to yell into the microphone. “Come to center stage, my little friends, and we’ll get this show started!” One of the props on the stage that looked like a mangled tree decided it didn’t want to be there for the show after all and toppled over, conking the mouse mascot in the head. He went down in a flail of limbs and tail, his giant mouse head askew, making it look like he’d broken his neck. The kids screamed and parents stampeded to save little Johnny from a terrifying reality show.

“Don’t stay up too late. And don’t tell your mother. I think Farm of death was way underrated. Goodnight. Love you squirt.” I giggle at being busted but also Dad keeping my secret. He steals a handful of my popcorn, with Max gobbling up the pieces that fall from his hand. I promise him I won’t stay up all night and I won’t tell Mom. Dad goes to the kitchen and gets himself a bottle of water, before taking Max out to go to the bathroom. Then he makes sure all the windows and doors are locked a final time before turning in for the night. I turn back on Farm Of Death just in time to see a scarecrow come to life and chase a couple through the corn maze with a machete.

Turning, I began to move towards it, unable to quite comprehend what could possibly be making that type of noise this deep in the forest. Moving forward, I came across a field with glowing blue flowers and what looked to be scarecrows. They twisted about lazily in the wind as a few birds began to land on them. Snarling, the scarecrows mouths snapped open as their claw-like hands grabbed the birds eating them in one bite. As they chewed, pieces of the birds could be seen traveling down the scarecrows skeletal throats and past their ribecages before the now-ground-up creatures hit the earth below them.

I nodded, trying to steady my voice. “Last night was Halloween. Our boss, William Zoo, booked out a rural horror-themed escape room. He said anyone who made it through without screaming would get ten thousand. “There were nine of us. After we went in…” I went through everything—the layout, mechanisms, and performance of the scarecrow character with the oversized pumpkin head. He didn’t move, just listened in silence. “You said the pumpkin-headed character chased you with a chainsaw?” “Yes. It was incredibly loud, just this constant buzzing.”

Looking at it from the entrance was enough to give anyone goosebumps, let alone walking into such a room. Mrs. Morgan put on a gown and held a wooden sword as she walked inside. She took out a little scarecrow from her gown, which she had prepared in advance. Then, she used an ink pen to write down Thomas’ birthday on the yellow charm before she stuck it on the scarecrow. In the end, she dropped Thomas’ blood on the scarecrow’s “head.” Once everything was ready, Mrs. Morgan started the ceremony. She performed a creepy dance while she muttered to herself. Nobody knew what she was whispering because they could not hear her clearly.

Adult, children, and even animals stare at us like we are Aliens that has come to destroy them. Goosebumps feel my skin when I see how the pack members work like animals. Starved children, naked adults, and malnourished Werewolves are everywhere. They work as if their lives depend on it, and the worse part of it all is that there are warriors at the back of them, beating them and urging them to work faster. “What the fuck is going on?" “What the fucking hell am I seeing?" Anyone close to me would have noticed the goosebumps on my body as they were not making any effort to be hidden. The sound seemed to be coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I looked at Scott in fear and he looked right back at me. I wanted to disappear so badly. Mother's grip became tighter on me like she was trying to give me some extra boost by doing that and it gave me a bit of short-lived warmth.

A few pack members come bye and talk to us and block our view, suddenly we hear screams and growls. Charlie screams "ABIGAIL!" and I notice all the scarecrows are missing from their spots, Charlie takes off running and comes to a complete stop. I look around and can't believe what I'm seeing.
