The team advanced, moving cautiously but confidently, slipping into the cave’s shadowed mouth, the scent of danger still lingering in the air. They crept through the intricate stone corridors, the mountain walls cold and damp under their hands. In the distance, faint chanting echoed from a hidden chamber, a reminder that they were not alone. Marcus held a red crystal, its glow shifting subtly to mark the correct passage, guiding them deeper into the heart of the mountain.

It is flawed. The room went silent. The city engineer, a guy named Steve, stood up, turning red. Flawed? Steve sputtered. I wrote that report! They were deep underground. After ten minutes of walking, the tunnel ended. They stepped into a massive cavern. "Oh my God," Serenity gasped. In the center of the cavern stood a colossal gate. It was at least ten meters high, made of a pitch-black stone that seemed to absorb the light from their flashlights. It wasn't just a door. It was a monolith. Carved into the black surface was a terrifying relief: Thousands of snakes intertwined to form a barrier. And in the center, a keyhole shaped like a drop of blood.

Inside, the air was warmer, lit by bioluminescent fungi glowing soft blue on the walls. The space felt alive, echoing with the waterfall's song, a sacred bubble amid the storm. I collapsed against the stone, chest heaving, Drake barricading the entrance with boulders.

Leesa had been hoping this cave might be like some she had seen pictured in books, filled with glittering crystal formations, sharp pointed stalactites and stalagmites, and maybe even an underground river or stream. They found none of that in here, however, even when they ventured farther into the cavern than Rave had ever gone. The passage twisted and turned, usually descending at a gentle grade and occasionally ascending, but it was always the same—rough walls and ceiling fashioned of uneven, gray and brown stone. Several large gaps appeared to the bottom, revealing a streak of red smoldering light within. And without realizing it, Luca managed to destroy the barrier made by the Skarsgards. Leona screamed loudly when she saw the Alpha almost fall into the huge gaping hole behind him. Luca was about to dash – to save him, however, Loui had already approached – to grab the Alpha and take him to the other side which he felt was safe.

The older den was nearer to the city and thus the problem. The cave system was vast and intricate, with winding tunnels and rooms of various sizes. The walls were rough and jagged, made of solid limestone that had been carved out over thousands of years by water and erosion. The main cavern was enormous, with a high ceiling and a wide open space that would be perfect for communal gatherings.

Dusk crept up on us quickly, but Corvu had managed to find the entrance to where the giant dwelled. In front of a huge hole in the middle of a mountain, surrounded by dead vines and ash. This was not a tourist destination. Corvu appears to be emptying a few items from his backpack and replacing them with others. Dismounting the horses, we tie them up beside a distant tree and enter the cave.
