Hazel looked at the book in his hand and said, “This is the book of prophecy.” She stretched out her hand to receive the book. As soon as the book was in her hand, she saw a red glow from under the book and when she turned her hand, she saw that it came from the ring on her finger. Her eyes widen almost immediately and she looked at Mr. Evans. “No way! Don’t tell me—” “Yes. I came as soon as I saw it. The pages now have words in it. Why don’t you open the first page and see what is written there?” Mr. Evans said and Hazel placed the book on the table and wasted no time in turning the first page.

There were cobwebs everywhere, and I was not shocked because no one was in a hurry to learn that. Setting my satchel down on a nearby table, I pulled out the spell book and flipped to the chapter on protection. The symbols and instructions stared back at me looking very foreign. I ran my fingers over the pages, tracing the intricate designs as I whispered the first few words of the spell. I felt the air charge around me and for the first time in days, I felt a flicker of hope.

I took it out and read the title. It was only one word. Magic. It looked interesting so I took it and sat back down on the couch. The first few chapters were not that interesting. History of magic and spells. The next few chapters talked about potions and herbs. But the last chapter caught my attention. It simply said: “Prophecies”. I flipped over to the last chapter and started reading. It was about prophecies that already happened. It was about who made those prophecies and what they meant to the supernatural world. Nothing useful to me. I needed to know about the prophecy that didn’t happen already.

The words, ‘Property of Ismene’s Library’, were stamped on the very first page. I jumped right in, reading about a seemingly ordinary girl thrust into a strange game of magic, trickery, and mayhem. She’d just boarded a train to some far away land when my eyes began to grow heavy. I continued skimming the book, but the words became choppy as my exhaustion grew. The girl had taken some potion that sent her spiraling into a magic-induced dream. My eyes fell shut as she plummeted off a cliffside, only to snap open when Draco entered the room.

(Harper’s POV) “I’m sorry, what now?” I stared at Harry, dumbfounded. He flicked through some more pages of the book and then turned it to face me. I apprehensively looked down at the book. The page was titled “Bloodline” and there was a picture of a wicked-looking blade down one side. The writing was a little faded and handwritten, but despite all that, it felt so familiar and I could read it, like it was something I had read a thousand times before.

Even if the best case scenario was I remain the same, at least I might be able to center myself long enough to not have my magic explode out of me like some kind of cannon. I set the book down on the coffee table before taking my seat on the floor in front of it. The first few pages are introductions to the author and whatever other nonsense I immediately bypass. I don't need to read through twenty pages of some author—whose more than likely dead by now—droning on about the importance of magic balance and blah blah. Flipping to somewhere in the middle,I immediately saw a diagram of a pentagram. "Ohhh…" I mumble to myself and trace my finger over it.
