I heard him say and cocked a brow, surely the cruel king did not just try to make a joke. A rather obvious one at that. My lips quivered as I fought against the urge to laugh at his humor, his gaze softened and before I knew it, he was lowering his lips to meet mine. Only this time, before he crashed them on mine he said something completely mortifying. "Be with me forever...my Daphne." He declared then pressed his lips on mine, seizing them in another passionate exchange. Only this time my body wasn't frozen in fear, but in complete shock! Simply because he had moaned the name, Daphne.

He had come to her chambers with soft words and weary eyes, begging her to believe that Rosa was nothing more than a lost daughter, a wounded child seeking love. And Daphne had tried. Gods, she had tried. But every time she saw Rosa standing too close to him, her heart would twist painfully in her chest. They didn’t notice me when I entered but they did when Adrian came behind me. Adrian guided me to the last table where three other boys were waiting. One of the boys with a buzz cut asked even before I was seated, “Is she, Daphne?” Adrian nodded. They hooted together, and I flushed. Because I didn’t know what Adrian told them about me. “Don’t worry, I have only said good things about you.” Adrian whispered in my ear, making me squirm in my seat.
