Chapter 14: The Silver Book Hannah: A WEEK LATER It had been a week since my initiation into the Crows Hill pack, and I had yet to be assigned any chores or duties. It was kind of weird not having anything to do since all my life, all I ever did was work. So, I spent my days roaming the lands, helping out when and where I could. One day, I stumbled upon the pack’s library. It quickly became my sanctuary, it was one of a kind.

It wasn’t for Lazy Eye’s neck that Amberleigh aimed the machete, but rather his right arm. The giant knife slid through just above his wrist smooth as fucking butter barely missing also taking out his thigh as well. The blade cut through the arm rest in the wooden chair and bounced against the concrete floor. Perhaps it was that jarring ring which helped bring Amber back to her fucking senses. Or the wet bounce of Lazy Eye’s hand on the floor. Because his scream had only made her want to hurt him more.

Once that loud howl came from him, we all prepared ourselves as the wolves charged at us altogether. All we could do was fight to our hearts desire. The view from the other window had not given her any idea about the dense woods. She glanced up at where her room was and then back at the yard. She had recalled hearing wolves earlier, but she had not stopped to think that they could be human in nature. Nor did she realize that the more experienced wolves were able to shift at will. If she had should might not have jumped of the balcony and onto the grass. She walked toward the woods and stood at the edge of them now as she was a bit nervous to go into them. She knew Chace would not be happy she was out of her room. But at least she was not interfering with him and Ryder.

His glass eye is visible from under his cloak, glaring at her. He grins at her. Anna is helpless as the man snaps his fingers and suddenly, a large flame erupts in the hay stacks surrounding Alexa. “Take her and run!” Alexa screams, not caring about the pain engulfing her. “RUN!” Anna does not even get the time to run for her mother. A pair of hands grabs her and takes her away from there. She looks up to see her sister, Harietta, taking her away. Her own eyes are stung with tears but she keeps on running with her younger sister.

Then he climbs again, pushing the hatch at the top. It doesn’t move. Locked. Of course it’s locked. Humans lock everything now. They lock access to anything that might allow creatures to move unseen. Rowan curses under his breath, a low growl of frustration. Hunters shout below. They’ve reached the chamber. Flashlights sweep upward, beams slicing into the shaft like knives. Rowan presses his shoulder against the hatch. Pain flares across his face. He grits his teeth and pushes anyway. The hatch shifts slightly.

His scars weren’t just marks but it showed his strength and resilience and fight for survival. “I hope they meet their loophole soon because I don’t have the money to sue them to court.” She said with furrowed brows. Hilton smiled. Then he asked, “Talking about money, hope there won’t be a deduction from your pay for leaving the office before closing hours?” “I don’t think so, Mr. Jerry has been helpful.” She replied happily. That instant, Hilton received a message from Jerry. ‘Theo and I are waiting for you at your mansion.’ He gasped, remembering that he had some paper works to finalize so Jerry can submit them and Theo promised to check on him later.
