Ben winced but barreled on. “It got quite the show. I mean, full frontal. Very educational.”

Jerson looked at the person behind him and said, “It's your shower gel.” “That’s why I said, it smells nice because it's mine,” Harvey proudly said. “Anyway, let’s go. I’ll drive!” Jerson nodded. He followed Harvey down to the garage. The people who were living in this building could only be counted through his hand’s finger. It was either four or three. “This was rumored to be haunted,” Harvey stated. “Though, obviously, that is a groundless rumor.” Harvey stopped in front of a chevy. “Hop in.”

"Which room are you in?" "I'm in the hallway. Same as you. I can see the numbers. 901, 903, 905—wait." A pause. "Your numbers are different." "What do you mean?" "Your side says 910. My side says 910 too. But the numbers on the other doors… they're backward. Like a mirror. 901 is 109. 903 is 304." Another pause. "Oh god, I think I'm inside the mural." That stopped my breath. The mural. The endless staircase. The artist who had painted himself into a corner he couldn't escape.

I stare at it until it stops. He probably thinks I’ll call back. I won’t. He’s part of Damian’s world now. Everyone is. An hour passes. Lights go off in the house one by one. Only one room stays lit—the nursery. I shift forward, eyes narrowing.

Great. “I think they forgot to add the sign that says definitely not cursed or haunted,” Vivienne muttered as she eyed the row of identical, dilapidated homes with their eyeless windows where nothing aside from the darkness watched her right back. “Uh-uh. No way. I’ve seen movies. I’ve watched The Blair Witch Project and Children of the Corn. This is every super haunted town in a Hollywood production. Nope.”
