Too Broken To Be Healed
He lay on the hospital bed, his small head wrapped in bandages, looking so fragile it nearly broke me.
“My baby… my baby,” I whispered hoarsely as tears filled my eyes and I rushed to his side.
Ruggero’s eyes fluttered open at the sound of my voice. When he saw me, confusion and relief filled his gaze.
“Mummy?”
I gathered him into my arms, pressing kisses onto his bandaged forehead as tears streamed down my cheeks. “I’m here, baby. I’m here.”
“I want to go home, mummy,” he murmured weakly.
