I looked at all the faces in the room as I proceeded to take my seat at the high table, facing them all. I said a short prayer, ruffled through my bag, brought out the files I needed, scanned through them for a couple of seconds, took out my glasses from my purse, threw it on and pretended to stare at the papers before me so I could take a peep at the faces before me. They were all staring at each other in disbelief and at me with disgust except one fine, young man at the opposite end of where I sat. He was indifferent and I, puzzled. “Can I meet you?” I asked, staring straight ahead at the man, breaking the whispers in between the silence.

Elsewhere – Clarissa’s Hidden Estate Clarissa watched Ethan and Nathan’s press conference replay again. “You’re going to try to be heroes,” she murmured. “But even heroes fall.” She tapped her keyboard again, this time opening a second folder. “Ethan: Mother | Institutional Records | Buried Files” Her lips curled. “Let’s see how strong love really is when I bring back everything he thought he’d escaped.”

“Let me see it.” No ticking. No wires. Just a plain box sealed with tape. Alex opened it carefully on the counter while Alicia pulled Aiden closer instinctively. Inside was a single photo album. Nothing else. Alicia frowned slightly and lifted it out. Old leather cover. No title. She opened the first page slowly. And froze. Photos. Hundreds of them. Not Harbor. Not politicians. Her. Alex. Aiden. The first picture showed newborn Aiden asleep on Alex’s chest years ago in that tiny apartment Alicia had hidden in after running away.

My legs ached, and my eyes grew heavy, but the whispers urged me on. By the time dawn was breaking, I was on the verge of collapse from exhaustion. Just when I thought I couldn't take another step, we arrived at a waterfall. The sight of it took my breath away. The cascading water sparkled in the early light, creating rainbows in the mist. It was like something out of a dream, a hidden paradise within the forest. Merilla led me behind the curtain of water, where we discovered a cave filled with ancient symbols that I couldn't decipher. The air inside was cool and filled with the scent of damp earth.

That was why it mattered. Ahead of us, the forest finally resolved into the scene itself. My father stood in the rain with his back half-turned, shoulders tight, one hand open and the other near the blade at his side. Marian faced him in a dark cloak plastered to her body by the downpour, silver glinting at her wrist. Two rogues prowled in the shadows beyond her. And there, just behind a stand of dripping brush, was the younger version of me—alive, sighted, hidden badly by fear and stubbornness.

It came in as ghost-grey, noiseless and bloodless, It passed over the forest and the stream silently and effortlessly, It crawled over the trees like a weightless blanket, enwrapping us all, It was mirage-like as it moved around us, blinding us completely. The element of MIST. The white foggy smoke achieved its purpose powerfully, effortlessly and effectively. As I saw the men blinded by it, fell in confusion and chaos. They kept going around each other in circles, startling each other. Lowering their guns down, afraid to shout at each other by mistake, was my signal to come out of the water.

Carolina nodded. We walked for almost three days and finally Carolina smiled and told me that Poisoned Mist Forest was not far away. But I did not see any entrance, I only saw ivy all over the mountain. every time a wind blew, the leaves rustled like weeping against each other. "The entrance is here." Carolina waved at me. I walked over and saw Carolina plucking the leaves of the cascading ivy with both hands. There was an entrance underneath the leaves. It was really very hidden. If Carolina had not shown it to me, I would never have imagined that there was a forest entrance here.

“Can you turn invisible?” “I can except my tail. It's a fail-safe, so he would never lose me.” “…? Weird, but long as you walk near me and your tail looks as if it comes from my rear end, it should be fine. Right?” Misty turned on its cloaking mechanism. From where she stood, she raised her hands to the sky and mist appeared all around her, such thick mist that it was impossible to see through it. The mist gathered in the sky, obscuring the clouds and the houses. "Open," she whispered and the hidden entrance of the village opened. The sky separated, breaking into two.
