After all she is the enemy here, and in my territory. I woke up the next morning feeling groggy. It’s not like I got much sleep after finding out my mate is the enemy. But now that I know, it’s my mission to make her life a living h*ll and destroy her. I will make her bow down to my feet and she watches her precious kingdom fall.

A tortured breath slithered through my parted lips. He shifted his stance so his lips brushed my cheek on a feather-light touch. The way he spoke and the ease of his actions were such a contradiction from the venomous words. I didn’t even know how to react. “Do we have an understanding, Merrielynn?” My name rolled off his tongue like butter. Complicating the emotions I was feeling even further. What’s a mate?” He smiled as he pulled me into his lap and looked at me. “Well, a mate is like your best friend. They are someone who will always be there for you and protect you. And its someone you can’t see yourself living without. Someone who will love you no matter what and will only love you.” He explained with love in his voice. “Oh,” I looked down, crossed my arms. Clearly, I was deep in thought. “So, you’re my mate!” I exclaimed.

He had contemplated rejecting her, as his heart still belonged to another he had lost to death's cold grasp. However, her request only fueled his determination to resist. He found himself wanting her to endure a bit of hardship, laughing again as he replied, "No, I won't. You are my mate, so deal with it." She frowned at his words. Did she truly despise him that much? A bitter taste lingered in his mouth, but he dismissed it anyway.

Time siezed to exist, and I hadn’t moved away from the slumped position I had taken since midnight. MATE The word that came out of my mouth involuntarily, and he said it back, he called me his mate. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, couldn’t stop thinking of how badly robbed I felt, but did I even have the right to feel robbed? Stepping forward, I widened my stance, "how the fuck are you still able to shift?" "An enemy of my enemy is my friend," he answered as vaguely as possible because hearing Griffin Holt give a straightforward answer was a fucking rarity.

However that wasn't for her, she had just gone through a heartbreak, and she couldn't afford to experience the same thing; only if she comes out of that one alive. "Do you think so?" He questioned, his eyes piercing into hers. She wondered who the man was, to be so confident to claim her his, even when she refused. And her senses told her that that kind of man must be dangerous, and one must flee from him. "Yes," she answered, swallowing hard. "The mark... is nothing, and moreover you can't make me do what I don't intent to do" "I think I can make you do more." I realized with horror that he was profoundly drunk. “Alpha Drake?” I called out carefully. “You are in the wrong room.” “That’s what makes me a terrible person.
