A confusion clouds my mind, but what is even more confusing is that the pain that I was feeling moments ago was soothed by hearing this word from his mouth. "Yeah, mate." His voice softens, almost into a whisper. "You are my mate... the one who is my destiny." "Mate," I say the word to myself, liking the sound of it. But then I again frown when I realize what this word means, "Mate? Are you calling me a friend?" I glare at him. Did he just call me his friend? "No, it's not like that." He chuckles while shaking his head.

I huffed. Resting his chin in his upturned hand he grinned. “ I suppose that you should go meet the enemy.” Gasping, I eyed him incredulously. “What if he truly is my mate too?” “Then we will have an excellent alliance against Nash,” he asserted and glanced at me with glowing eyes. “We?” I stammered as I glared at him and added, “You're not the one who will have to mate with him.” Rubbing my eyes, I felt like my entire existence was some cruel joke, and all these men were added comic relief.

“How can my mate… my mate… be my enemy? No, no, this can’t be happening. The Moon God wouldn’t do this to me!” Tears welled in her eyes, blurring her vision. She turned and ran to her room, collapsing onto her bed, burying her face in the soft covers as sobs wracked her body. “I searched for my mate… my whole life, I searched,” she choked out between cries. “And now he’s here, standing before me… but I can’t accept him. I can’t, because he’s my enemy. He came here to kill, not to claim me.”

I stared at him, as my hands ran cold. As soon as he laid his eyes on me, I slowly retracted, shaking my head. No, no, he can never be my mate. Flashes of the night he ruined me replayed at the back of my head as if drafted there already. My eyes burned as tears welled up in them. I raised my hands, covering my mouth as I retracted into the crowd. But as I had anticipated, he began running towards me. He was so fast I could not even run past the guards before he caught up to me.

I knew I was red, but I didn't want him to tease me more about it. “Damn it Jackson! Why?! Why do you keep doing things like this?” "Because" He begins with his husky tone. “You’re my mate. And I’m just showing you how much I appreciate you.” I peek through my hands nervously. Our faces were just inches apart from each other. His devilishly handsome face just made me want to scream like a fangirl from the close proximity. I had never felt like this around any hot guy in my life. Not that I always had hot guys swarming me from left to right. But this one, he is my mate. And I believe that this euphoric feeling will never stop for the rest of our lives.

“There is no title or rank between mates. Dennis is your mate and you need to start giving him his respect as your man. I don’t care if you are older than him, it’s his right.” Ignoring the woman, Genevieve’s fingers wrapped around Dennis’s neck so tightly that the man’s eyes popped in shock. “I am older and I am stronger, you were bred by two human parents that were turned nightwalkers, how can you be my mate? “Why does it have to be me? Why is this my burden?” “Because you are his mate.” The answer is simple. I let out a shaky breath, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. “That’s not enough.”​

I said to him and the fire in my eyes will burn everything but I still see the doubt in his eyes. "and I will be waiting for you there, he can't kill me I am his mate and I am strong to handle his torture but don't worry I will put up a fight," I said to him and the plan is already made in my head. I just need to execute my plan. "Destroy that alpha into pieces," he said and his hold on my hand tighten. We look into each other eyes for a few seconds, then we smile. We are not mates of each other, but we share a deep connection that we understand each other very well.
