The chamber seemed to fold inward, as if the walls themselves bent closer, pressing down on their ribs. Then, with a groan that echoed like bones breaking, the seal cracked. From its heart spilled shadow — but not like theirs. Not crow-black. Not familiar. This shadow was older, heavier, soaked in memory. Its edges gleamed red as if dipped in fire. A feather emerged. “We move at first light. No delays.” Crystal gripped the table’s edge. “She is doing this now, before we’re ready. To my surprise, Helena stepped in front of me, positioning herself to block the shadow's approach. The shadow struggled violently, but Celeste and Howard held her down with ease. The villain used the shadows to his advantage, creating illusions, launching surprise attacks from unexpected angles, and ensnaring Emberlyn and Keagan with their inky tendrils. The villain was relentless, drawing upon his diabolical mastery and infamous skills, his control over the shadows growing stronger. With a malevolent grin, he unleashed a wave of darkness, enveloping Emberlyn and Keagan, temporarily obscuring them from view.

Many were killed or seriously injured. Meanwhile, the leaders of the Echelon Vampire Clan were forcibly taken into a dark and cold underground room. The room turned out to be a secret chamber built by humans for the purpose of capturing and killing vampires. The room had walls and floors lined with iron and silver, two metals that could weaken the power of vampires. It also had small windows that could be opened and closed as the humans wished.

The roots felt like iron snakes coiling around Siron’s ankles. She shrieked, more out of shock than pain. Kit spun around, his eyes bulging at the sight of the self-moving roots. "What on earth is this?!" Before Siron could answer, a small shadow figure with red eyes glided out from behind a tree. It wasn't a fully formed human shape; it looked more like a twisted shadow doll, with limbs that were far too long and a face that consisted only of a wide grin and two points of fire.

One of the Shadows stated. "It's amazing what someone will do when they don't get what they want." Mimi shrugged. “Milo, you, Mimi and Babaloo take the cabin.” Fire instructed. “Fire we never take…” Mimi started. “It’s fine, turns out that Babaloo is a Shadow also.” “A bear shifter is a Shadow.” One of the other Shadow’s asked. "Cool, welcome to the family." They replied and welcomed Babaloo to the fold. “Yes, and we will figure that out later right now we have a job to do. Then we can discuss our first big dub Shadow bear.” Mimi said glaring at counterparts making them all cower a little under her glare.
