Sometimes, when I would find myself in a discomfiting position, I would imagine what it felt like to be breathless; I wondered what it would feel like to be completely, utterly, breathless and for every single breath of air to leave one's body. Truthfully speaking, I had always pondered the idea and the concept of shock as it was a phenomenon that caused me great intrigue. It usually was a feeling of distress and disbelief that one would have when something; either bad or good; happened accidentally.

Disappointment had been replaced by a more unsettling facial expression: raw incredulity. It drained all color from his face. His breath became faster His throat seemed to tighten in rebellion against the desire to swallow, letting everything else fade into insignificance aside from that one image. He could not move; he could not speak. In shock, Fred's eyes remained fixated on the photograph before him, utterly terrified. His thinking was screaming denial, overridden with a desperate need to reject what he saw. It couldn’t be. It just couldn’t. I stagger, barely managing to regain my balance. His words pierce me, spreading fear inside. My heart pounds, I can feel its throbbing in my chest. A wolf? Or death? The questions swirl in my head as I lower my eyes, trying to absorb his words. Slowly, the shock turns to rage. My gaze snaps back to his unfeeling face, and an uncontainable hatred swells within me.

Absolute, undeniable shock. His eyes widen, his jaw slackens almost imperceptibly. He looks at me, then back at the documents, his gaze darting between the two. His earlier composure crumbles, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated astonishment. For a split second, I glimpse a raw vulnerability in his eyes, a flicker of something similar to fear, quickly masked. Then, the shock dissipates, replaced by a slow, spreading grin. It starts small, a twitch at the corner of his mouth, then stretches wider, revealing perfectly aligned teeth. It’s a terrifying grin, devoid of warmth, full of triumph, and something sinister.

I yelled subconsciously and trying to break out from the trap I think I'm in. Someone was kneading my butt from behind and I tried to find Cole or is that everyone looks like Cole? I breath hard, gasp as a gripping sensation flushes inside me. Unfortunately, everything is blurry, I feel weaker, subconsciously and so scared that I froze. Please... someone help me, I don't know what's happening to me. I can't think, horror wears me off and my heart keeps hammering. Everyone looks like a joker, they're scary and why?

But he made me feel. His screams leave me haunted and scared. Of course, I have a heart but it doesn't beat. Rhett seemed to change that. And with a beating heart comes pain. Pain causes two urgencies: fear and shock. "Ahhhh!" Rhett's scream in the air makes my eyes widen as I snap out of my shock and jump after him. The air is harsh, cold and heavy but it doesn't hurt me. Luckily, I catch up to Rhett. He wraps his hands around me, snuggling his head into my chest as he continues to scream, muttering incoherent words.

And I saw…the most horrific thing that nobody should witness. It was so traumatizing, it stole the air from my lungs. My eyes flung wide open from shock and disbelief. Fuck! Was this fucking real? The sight was of a horror movie. “Oh my God.” I gasped as my mouth fell open. A wave of emotions erupted within me: disgust, horror, fear - it was overwhelming. All at once. From the corner of my eye, I saw Elion's face fall. He shut his eyes and looked away in shame, pain, or guilt.

But this time, they were not whispers of shame or ridicule. They were whispers of shock and fear.

I stood frozen by the door, watching him look at me with such raw horror that it felt like a physical blow to my chest. "I did something terrible to you," he said, and it wasn't a question. His voice was flat with certainty. "I can see it in your face. In the way you stand by the door like you're ready to run. In the way you flinched when I moved too quickly." My throat had closed completely. I couldn't have spoken if I'd wanted to. All I could do was watch as the realisation washed over him in waves—shock, disbelief, and then that awful, crushing horror.

Stars burst behind my eyes. I lie there for a second too long. Fear jolts me upright. I crawl beneath a freight car, curling into the narrow space, dirt soaking into my clothes. My body shakes uncontrollably now, teeth chattering, vision swimming. This is dangerous. Shock is dangerous. I press my forehead to the ground and breathe, slow and deliberate, counting again until the shaking eases just enough to function. Footsteps echo faintly nearby. Not close. Yet. I squeeze my eyes shut, every muscle locked tight, listening to my own heartbeat thunder in my ears.
