That's enough. I close it and put it on the shelf next to the others. Four volumes of becoming. Of breaking and rebuilding. This life—the one I'm building with Adrian and Ava and everyone who's chosen to be part of it—this doesn't need documentation. It just needs living. And I'm finally learning how.

They jumped the second I told them to. It wasn’t always like this, though. I built all of this from nothing. Scraped my way up with my own sweat, my own fists, my own rage. My professor thought it was absolutely amazing that I'd already been exposed to the media so it would be easier to get the public to be interested in my book. I was in the process of writing the book. It was a very emotional aspect of my life, and I decided to share it with the world. My story is about a girl who grew up in an orphanage, and everyday she'd wait for her parents to come get her, but by the end of the day when no one showed up, she'd be disappointed. Until one day she gave up hope, and so her dreams became all about getting out safely, and trying to forget about her past. It was about my story, only with different characters and names, and knowing that people would be inspired

I announced. I rose from my chair and pushed the cart toward the left, where my bookshelves stood. Punching in a few codes, it split into two, revealing an entrance to my massive bedroom, complete with a bathroom, a mini-kitchen, and a bar. I had created this space knowing that I had built my whole life around work. I might as well transform part of it into a home.

You chose to spend your time in this story and that means everything to me. Writing this book has been one of the most personal things I have ever done. Jayda is not me but she carries things I understand, the weight of building something when you're not sure how long you have to build it, the complicated business of letting someone in when letting people in has cost you before, the specific exhaustion of being strong for so long that you've forgotten what it feels like to put it down.
