When Chase awoke, it was 4:59 a.m. He turned off the alarm clock before it could ring. He got up from lying down and moved to his bed before leaving his small bedroom and heading straight for the kitchen. Chase has a simple life with his grandmother. His parents abandoned him at a young age. He doesn't know where his parents went. His grandmother didn't even know about it. But he didn't think about that anymore because he had no intention of looking for them either.

This time, it was a message from Chase. CHASE: Mom says you’re coming home this weekend. I typed a reply. ME: I told her maybe. Three dots appeared immediately. CHASE: That means yes. ME: You’re bossy. CHASE: I’m older. ME: That doesn’t make you my manager. CHASE: Be home by six on Saturday. I rolled my eyes, but I was smiling. Chase was annoying, overprotective, and convinced I was still fourteen years old. He called if I did not respond for more than a few hours. He checked my car whenever I visited. He had once tried to interview a boy who asked me to prom.

Not that I think he will, since I'm sure he hates me now, but just in case he wants to. “Thank you! That actually sounds great,” I said, standing up to follow him. The drive back was pleasant, and it took only a fraction of the time it would have taken me to walk. During our drive, I learned that Chase works at his father's business and today is his day off. He runs every morning through the woods, and he likes sports, which would explain his lean physique. I steered clear of my past. I don't know him enough to share that part of me yet.

Paige replied. Storm and Meghan turned to her, not getting what Paige meant about that, “You and Chase.” “What is?” “You are eighteen and he is twenty-four, he will teach you a lot about sex,” Paige replied. Author’s POV Past Twelve years old Chase was in his room, getting ready for his evening boxing class when he heard the doorbell of his house ringing. But he didn’t pay any attention to it and continued what he was doing. If it was that old six years old Chase, he would have gotten all excited thinking that his father is home. But after his mother’s death, all of the excitement has disappeared from his life. He has changed a lot. Nothing excites him anymore. There is nothing in his life that makes him happy except two things.

The two were just about to head to the backyard when Chester, Chase’s younger brother and the fifteenth oldest in the generation, ran out of the house. “Where are you guys going? Wait for me, I want to go with you guys.” Chase turned to see Chester run up to them and asked, “Have you put away all your things? Don’t you need to finish your homework?” Chester was only twelve and would be starting middle school in September. He replied, “I’ve just graduated, so what homework are you talking about? I’m going to enjoy my homework-free break. “And I can put away my books and stuff later too.”

My plan was to eat popcorn watching a thriller film after having what Mom or Ed cooked for dinner. “It won’t be long.” With the plan to lecture him a little about life, I agreed. Chase was going to fuck up in his future though not as much as me. He had been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his then girlfriend’s parents. When would that be? I didn’t exactly remember the time-frame. I guessed that would be in our early twenties. Five or six years from now. We sat down at a cafe a few blocks away from school. He had his car.
