"You've caused me more harm than good, and now you must pay,'' she added as she played with her nails, I hated that she had the upper hand over me, I hated that she was going to exploit my weaknesses.

I muttered. “Maybe,” she allowed. “But not for the reasons you think.” I frowned slightly, confusion cutting through the haze in my head. “What does that mean?” “It means,” she said, “you’re acting like the worst thing you did was get caught.” That hit harder than I expected. “That’s not….” I started, but the words fell apart before I could finish them.
