I pushed the unsettling conversation with my father to the back of my mind, focusing on the task at hand. As the Beta's daughter, it was my duty to attend the pack's gatherings and events. I made my way to the grand hall, where the pack had gathered to arrange the celebration of the upcoming full moon. The air was filled with laughter and chatter, and the smell of roasting meat wafted through the air, making my stomach growl with hunger.

Running in heels isn't that difficult, I must say. I held a small box in my hand wrapped with some shiny paper and yellow ribbon on top, the birthday girl's favorite color. The only present that I could afford for her was this handmade pendant that was her name molded with metal wire, with a rose quartz shaped as a crescent Moon, fixed on the top of her name's last 'A'.

“There was a book, that we have in our possession. It about everything you wanted to know about the moon goddess and her accomplishments. I flinched at those words, whipping my gaze to a pair of young teenagers, dancing hand in hand as they danced away. Like ice seeping into my skin, those words drained away the joy I was drowning in. I looked up at the sky where the moon lay. Its light crescent glow shining amidst the darkness. The sight made me huff, bitterness welling through me. The Moon Goddess. My mother would read bedtime stories, all centered on her and how her wonderful twisting of fate and her love had brought people together, reclaimed bonds and conquered evil. Bullshit.

Almost instantaneously after I cried out for help from my mother in my mind, the moon began to glow blindingly, like a white version of the sun, then it's silvery, shimmering rays shot out like a beam, and penetrated into my body. I daren't breathe, as I feel the power swirl into me, gushing with the force of a tidal wave. It does not hurt, but it is safe to say it is a really peculiar feeling! Looking down I almost freak out at the way my entire body is glowing a ghostly white, but I know that my mother would not do anything to hurt me. It was as smooth as honey, but you could tell that it held a power that was unimaginable. Selena could feel some form of fear, but she felt safe nevertheless. ‎ Later that night something extraordinary happened. ‎ ‎Lyra fell asleep. ‎ ‎But her mind drifted somewhere else. ‎ ‎She stood on a vast silver plain beneath endless stars. ‎ ‎Moonlight stretched across the sky like a glowing ocean. ‎ ‎And standing before her was a radiant woman made of shimmering light. ‎ ‎The Moon Goddess. ‎ ‎Lyra stared in shock. ‎ ‎“Who are you?” ‎ ‎The goddess smiled gently. ‎ ‎“I am you.” ‎ ‎Lyra’s breath caught.

CHAPTER 6. My parents were seriously bent on getting rid of me. I guess they saw me as a burden that they should quickly toss away. “Rebecca!” my mother said. She claimed up the stairs and walked towards my room. I ran back into my room and opened the window. I was going to jump, but the front was that I was very scared of heights.
