CRAVING THE BAD BOY
the second man said.
"Then give me the right ones."
He stepped closer. Too close. Mark moved instantly, blocking him again. "Don’t," Mark said.
The second man stopped, but his eyes stayed on me. "You should be asking why now," he said.
"Why now?" I repeated.
"Yes."
My chest tightened. "Fine. Why now?"
Silence. Then, "Because time is running out."
Those words hit harder than I expected. "For what?" I asked.
Neither of them answered. That silence felt heavy. Like something was about to fall into place. Something I wasn’t ready for. A sudden noise came from downstairs. All of us froze. Another door. Opening. My breath caught. "There’s more of you?" I asked.
