And he walked away from the dining table. I gave a nod and continued eating the salad in front of me. It tasted delicious to my surprise because I don't like eating raw vegetables. But the salad in front of me doesn't give me a raw smell or taste. It was more like half cooked, but still crunchy and it gave a nice aromatic and the way they cooked was really nice.

It just sat there, exactly the way I usually make them or order them myself—light cream, parmesan balanced just right, nothing unnecessary hiding inside it. Something inside me shifted. I reached for the third plate. A salad. No olives. No cucumbers, the ones I always pick out. No tomatoes I don't even bother touching. Just crisp greens, exactly the kind I don’t complain about, with dressing neatly placed on the side—because whoever made this knew I never let it touch my salad directly. A small sound escaped my throat, almost in disbelief. I turned slowly to the fourth plate. Fruit. And I actually paused.
