I have been reading this old dusty book for about an hour now, I groaned and gave up on the book, I got up and went to go put the book back, but when I was about to put the book in the slot I saw a little door. There was a button on it so I pressed it, it made a little squeak which got everyones attention, they stared at what I was doing, I opened it fully, inisde there was a giant leather book. I pulled it our and read the cover 'Incwadi nezilo'

Perhaps that had something to do with my birth father? Most of the books were leatherbound tomes, plain in appearance though they radiated waves of dark magic. On one shelf in particular sat a bunch of thinner books. I pulled one out and flicked through its pages. It seemed to be a journal of sorts, though it didn’t say who it belonged to. I pulled out one of the journals and flipped through its pages, freezing when I noticed the odd color of ink. It was the same as the page Denver had used that night.

It hadn’t been cleared fully. Most of the books were still in place, she read them slowly according to their names. Botanical encyclopedias. Old medical volumes. Council procedural binders. Without a specific volume in mind, I figured it would be best to just browse through until I saw something that sounded like it would help. Trailing my fingers along the spines as I looked, the familiar leather a comfort, I stopped on a book titled "A Kingdom from Ash: The Ashbourne Reign." I slid it off the shelf, cradling its weight in my arms as I continued my search. By the time I’d looked over all the shelves, I added three more books to my pile—"A Compendium of Bonding," "The Moon Goddess’s Blessed," and "Vampires: Blood and Legend."

After entering the library, I closed the door behind me and locked it to ensure no unwanted invasion. I walked to the farthest corner of the library where there was a small collection of books with their covers engraved in gold designs. My eyes wandered over the books before halting onto the one with black leather cover. It didn’t stand out much compared to other books but one glance at the pages inside and it is enough to catch anyone's attention.

My eyes scanned the titles, recognizing several from our book club. But a series we hadn’t yet completed caught my attention. Not all the books were in print, and as much as we loved and wanted to support the indie author, A.D. Burnell, those reading apps could be a bit unpredictable. In the far corner is a sink and a crude-looking toilet. Hooks line one of the walls, all empty. The air smells like rust and dust. But then, something catches my eye. A shelf near the back, almost hidden in shadow. Not plastic packages this time. Books. Old ones. Their spines are worn, leather cracked. Some have gold filigree. Others are thick and bound in cloth. I move closer, squinting to read the faded titles. “Lineage of Power.” “The Lost Coronation.” “Treaties of the First Blood.”
