She closed her own laptop, giving me her full attention now, and I recognized the specific stubbornness in her expression that meant she wasn’t going to let this go without an answer.
“Something happened with Jace,” I admitted finally, choosing my words carefully.
“What kind of something?”
“We had a whole thing. An argument. About the apology, about Julian, about everything, and it kept escalating, and then—” I stopped, not entirely sure how to say the next part out loud, like saying it would make it more real than it already felt.
“And then what?”
“And then he kissed me. Or I kissed him. I genuinely don’t know which one of us actually did it.”
