"Personally, I find those stories a bit dull. All that talk of manners and marriage prospects. Don't you think, Pamela?"

Slowly, I pushed back the Jane Austen book I was about to pick up, and turned to meet Mark’s quizzical gaze. “I-I… I’m sorry sir, I didn’t think anyone would be here,” I stammered, desperately trying to avoid his piercing gaze. He stared at me for a while, then shifted his gaze to the shelf. “Jane Austen. She’s a good read,” Mark said, picking up the book. “You can keep it,” he said with a soft look on his face and turned to walk away. I was perplexed by his demeanor and managed to compose myself enough to look up.

I was required to do well in school, stay pure, which meant don’t hang out with boys, get classes in decorum, dancing, party planning, budget management, and everything else that was really boring to a teenage girl. My parents would fill my schedule, making it impossible for me to maintain friendships, and the only free time I had I would spend reading books. My favorites were romance novels from the 19th century. It was the exact opposite of life inside the Mystic Shadow Pack. Women in Jane Austen’s novels were fully dressed, and even showing an ankle could be scandalous, but here men and women were naked half the time, and other times they were dressed in skimpy clothes. People would shift

he stated and went back to his phone. Then we had literature. The topic was classic genre. “Which English authors you can name from classic genre?” Mr. Adams asked. I raised my hand, but so did Raf, which caught me off guard. “Raf, please name them!” teacher asked. “Jane Austen, sisters Brontes, Charles Dickens and of course, William Shakespeare,” Raf stated. “Great! Who is your favorite author?”

Never a bloody day she didn’t visit my thought, but she was married and she betrayed my trust, so it had to end one way or another. I did a great job of ignoring her messages and her calls until she finally gave up. But not quite on forgetting her though. I still missed her. Terribly. “Westley.” I locked the door after me, and Austen was inspecting the entire place. I realized they have something in common; their posture, the shape of their faces especially their lips. Dear, God. “Linton, are you there?” I blinked and shook my head. “Yeah, I’m here. Do you happen to have a brother?”

“I don’t know. You keep everything in such good condition. I’m almost afraid to touch anything in this room.” “I know you’ll be careful with my things.” She nodded and pulled the book off the shelf. “I didn’t know you liked Jane Austen.” “Why not?” She shrugged. “She’s a woman author.” “I’m broad minded enough to think women have a lot to offer society. I enjoy her work.” “This is one of my favorite books. Sense and Sensibility. The story of two sisters who represent two opposing forces: logic and emotion.” He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. He seemed to be considering her analysis of the book. “I didn’t think anyone else in Virginia understood that.”

He follows it up with silk hand gloves which he drops on my palms. Quietly, I follow his orders, taking care not to rip the hand gloves with my hastiness. "You can open it now." He pronounces. "You can't get much cleaner than that." With shaky hands, I skim the hand cover of the book, running my fingers through it and feeling the hard leather beneath my tips. Erik realized just then that he had barely tipped the iceberg when it came to the wonderful and interesting qualities this woman possessed. "Who is your favorite writer?" Pearl asked Phoebe. "Austen, for sure." She said. Pearl smiled. "Yes. She was an phenomenal writer. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorites." Pearl said. "Oh yes. Mr. Darcy. The man that ruined all men for every woman, for hundreds of years later, even. That's why I love literature so much. One thing, one person created in a woman's mind has the ability to affect the lives of so many for centuries later, just because of how she was able to write about it." Phoebe said. Auggie looked at her adoringly and kissed her hand.

I warn her. "How dare you to call our King by his given name" she raises her hand to hit me. Li blocks her. "You are making a very big mistake Catherine. She doesn't need another maid" a smile comes to my face at the maid comment. Wait, Catherine? Is she not the sister of Max? But they seem to be opposites. Max is polite, friendly, and warm. She is snobby and arrogant. But they both still have one thing in common. They both like Darius. I think she likes him, a little too much.
