Avery’s POV After the scene in the council chambers, the Council moved on to other business, and Gideon and I were surrounded by chattering Alphas and Lunas who wanted to chat about what had just happened. There were more than a few back pats given to Gideon, and several admiring comments made by sympathetic Lunas.

“The Watch Binding will remain until the Council formally clears you. Step beyond the grounds and it will tighten until it cuts.” I swallowed hard. “So… not free. Just a nicer cage.” He didn’t smile. None of them did. Jade stood up then. Without a word, without even glancing my way, he walked out through a side door. The crowd parted for him like water. His back was straight, steps measured. I watched him go, chest tight. What the hell was he thinking? Did he believe any of this? Or was this just another game?

Jude POV This motherfucker wants to take me on? Fucking bring it. I’ve been wanting a piece of him anyway. The council stands up and calls out, “Your request is denied! You have been sentenced to life and you will listen to the rest of the sentencing.” My dad mind links me, ‘Sit down. He can’t challenge you when you are not in your role yet. The guy is a total idiot.’ ‘I want to tear him to shreds for hurting Iva.’

He walked to the door as he spoke to the operator and the fear and shock in his voice was real. “We all stick to the same story, you can ask Simon and his pack all the questions you want after you’ve signed as familiars. If you tell anyone about what we are, I’ll have to come back and kill you,” I said to them and Jesse laughed but my face remained serious. “I think I need a drink,” Jordan said and Jesse nodded his head. “Jordan, The Council will be keeping an eye on you as you take over this club, I’ve already vouched for you,” I said to him.

Since, as I recalled, Beta Jax's last name was Weiner, I didn't think he was the one who sent them. Kanan had done an amazing amount of work, trying to group those messages by matching their content with certain events to more or less put them in chronological order. The final part of the mail contained the few messages he marked in red, marking them as recent events. All of them were from the mysterious JD. The more I looked at them, the more I thought that those notes didn't sound like they were from a trusted servant. The content was sometimes harsh, and it was Elora who was given orders to obey.

“Thank you. I will provide a detailed report of our findings for the council to look over and deem whether or not to resume the discussion of war.” They all nodded to me, Jurl glared though, angry that I got my way. I reached out and retook the note, putting in back in my pocket. Backing away, I turned and headed back down to the ley line. Tatiana put her hand on my shoulder just as I jumped. The green forest replaced the white walls of the council chambers. “I hate Jurl. I’m going to just bury him in a ditch one day and no one would miss him.” She chuckled, patting my shoulder. “You really shouldn’t let him get under your skin so. He is in line to be council after Huern.”

Josie finally concedes defeat and does what they ask of her. I cannot watch as she is forced to destroy another wolf. Jenna and Sarah are safe. They are valuable pawns in the Council’s games. I feel myself going tense again, waiting for the next thing to take place when I feel the tingles again. This time they are stronger. The dream is getting further away from me so I can no longer see what is happening. I am relieved as I could not keep reliving those moments.

Our bonds are strong because of the leaders before us. There are two more events left before the final showdown. The council know how to throw events, this has been one of the best as of yet, I must say that I am really enjoying myself. Also, I have yet to have a quiet moment with Jae’s sister. I’ve been sneaking glances at her all day and haven’t missed her stolen glances as well. She is curious and I like it.

Wendy Returning home was a mixed blessing. I missed my family and they were all very happy to see me, but now, I miss seeing Jude all day, every day. We still talk at night, but he and Tracker are working on preparing for the multiple trials that they have coming up. They’ve suggested to the council that I be allowed to stand with them while they present.
