I poked my head out of the bathroom door. “Jess...” I called softly, knowing I had kind of walked out on her. “What!” she replied, her tone a mix of annoyance and curiosity. “The details you said you had on Gabriel... Spill them. Now.” Jess burst into giggles, flopping dramatically onto my bed. “I lied. I haven’t been able to find any info on him. I’m sorry...” she teased, clearly enjoying herself. “The truth is, I heard he’s super private about his affairs.”

The house became cold, quiet and empty. Her side of the bed untouched for months because I couldn't bring myself to sleep there properly.
