I shook my head, waving them both off. “Alright, alright. Get it out of your system. I was resting my eyes, that’s all.”
Petrov chuckled as he pulled up a chair. “Resting your eyes, huh? That’s what old men say when they fall asleep in front of the TV.”
Tony slapped his knee, laughing even harder. “Next thing you know, he’ll be asking us to turn down the music and get off his lawn.”
“Alright, that’s enough,” I said, trying to keep a straight face but failing miserably. The room was filled with easy laughter, the kind that cut through the tension like a knife. But deep down, I knew it wouldn’t last. It never did.
