It changed how I understood my own bloodline's development across the whole arc. But right now there was a letter on the table with Jane's handwriting on it. Joshua was standing in the doorway. He crossed to the table, looked at the letter, at the evidence, properly logged and picked it up. He read it without saying anything. I watched his face the whole time. He didn't react. Just read it all the way through and set it back down with the same precise fold it had arrived in. Like he was putting it back the way he'd found it.

I open my mouth, but nothing comes out. Josh’s smile drops. His body shifts, stepping halfway in front of me like a shield. I see his jaw clench, see that flicker in his eyes—he wants to hit Kenneth. I can feel it. But he doesn’t move. I don’t need him to. I straighten my back, even though my stomach is still twisting. “I can read just fine, Kenneth,” I say through my teeth, my voice low but steady. “Especially when it comes to reading people who hide their inferiority behind big words and borrowed suits.”

A sudden voice boomed making us turn our heads. Read entered the room looking exhausted. His long sleeve has rolled its way up to his arms, two buttons are opened revealing a little view of his tattooed chest, he threw his suit jacket at the couch and looked at us. "Inka was asking about a certain person name Keziah and we told her that we didn't know any person with that name but she insisted that there is one," Josh answered Read looked at me, raising a brow before he heaved a sigh and sat at the edge of the bed.

Erica wasn't surprised—her son watched little TV and usually had his head buried in some kind of book. "Okay. I'll be back soon," she said, giving him a wry smile as she started to close the bathroom door. "Don't start without me." As the door closed, Josh felt his heart start to race. "What the heck did that mean?" he asked himself. "It probably doesn't mean anything. Relax, buddy...relax." He pulled down the covers, stacked his pillows against the headboard and lay back against them. It was fairly warm in the room, so he just pulled the sheet back up over him. Stanford had sent him a list of some reading material they expected him to be familiar with, and he'd bought a couple of the books

I slowly calmed down before taking it from the table next to my bed on the left side where it was near the door. I take it and read it. JOSHUA Your Mission 101 is starting now. Josh was on edge ever since he had woken up and every time I glanced at him he had his eyes on Reagan watching her every move. “What was what about?” He tried to act coy. “Really… She bit her lip so hard it started to bleed! And didn’t stop! Josh! I’m getting really tired of being the only one who doesn’t know.” I don’t want to play games, I’m tired and my nerves are shot. He doesn’t answer me right away, just keeps hauling in the bags from the truck. Once everything has been brought in he went into the kitchen and grabbed a drink from the fridge.

"Read the paper and tell me who that is." He gradually picks up the paper and reads the words. I studied his expression to see any changes, but it was blank. However, he gulped. One of my eyebrows raised high, and I just stared at him. Joshua admitted that he did not know who this was. I slammed my can't down on the desk— hurting it. He flinched at my actions as his whole body began to shake.

Why should this be any different? Josh bounces up the steps two at a time, making me giggle at his exuberance. When he pushes through the door, I hear the packhouse get quite. Everyone is watching us and I can sense some are moving forward to greet us. Josh pauses for just a split second while he looks at everyone. “Nope.” He spurts out and then he’s making his way up the inside stairs. When we get to my door he quickly opens it with his palm print and then latches it with ‘do not disturb’.

"Partly. I still think being under Nathaniel meets your interests better, but since you told me that you did like working at R&D, I didn’t consider bringing it up again." Feeling a bit relieved, Addison nods. "Okay. Please tell me things like that from now on. If I don't know what I’m doing wrong, then I can't improve. Which is what I told Milo as well." “I promise, baby. I’m really sorry,” Javan says, leaning over the counter to give Addison a quick kiss. A few minutes after Addison finished eating, Joshua comes walking through the front door. Looking tanned and excited, he joins them in the living room and starts babbling about his weekend in Miami.

The pack house is quiet, the early hours still settling over the land. Josh is already waiting on the porch, standing in his usual spot, his broad arms crossed over his chest. His expression is unreadable at first, but as he notices me, a small smile tugs at his lips. “Good morning, Josh.” I offer him a warm smile. “How are you today?” He nods his head once before replying. “Good morning. Considering what happened last night, I’m doing as well as I can.” I nod my head in understanding, remembering the horror of the attack, the bodies that had to be buried, the lingering grief in Marcel’s eyes. It still feels surreal.
