“Lorenzo... Rom—” Before I can finish, a small voice pipes up from behind me. “That’s me.” I turn and find a boy standing by the hallway, holding a sketchpad. His dark brown eyes study me curiously, his hair tousled like he’s just woken up from a nap. He’s probably around six or seven. I smile gently. “Hi, Bryan. I’m Penelope.” He shuffles closer, still clutching his sketchpad. “Are you the girl who makes pretty necklaces?”

Jacklyn stood there, finding it more and more odd how concerned Penelope was. Wasn't she paying a little too much attention to Lucy? With a narrowed gaze, Jacklyn walked over to Penelope and asked, curious, "Penelope, why have I never seen you care this much about any other kid?" Penelope always got flustered around Jacklyn. She looked away, avoiding her gaze as she answered, "I just think Lucy's really cute. Besides, can't I just like little girls?"

Penelope gave me a friendly smile and waved. “Hi,” she said softly. “Hi,” I said back, smiling. There was something about her that was gentle and warm. She had on a soft pink dress and flat sandals, and she stood tall with grace, like someone who had been taught how to behave in formal situations but still had a kind soul underneath.

She wiped a fake tear. Penelope was getting amused by every passing moment. “That's Marissa's. She’s the senior architect. Don't try to be friends with her." She looked around and whispered, "She is not like... you know-- uh very much likely to be socialized with." She said in a hushed tone.
