It was metal. Noah’s touch lingered. He slid his fingers under the collar of Ethan’s linen shirt. A thin, black cord was tied around the King’s neck. Hanging from it was a small, heavy iron key. It didn't have the gold filigree of the palace keys. It was plain. Functional. The key to the cage. Noah’s pulse leaped. He looked down at the top of Ethan’s head. This room was much smaller than King Louis' room but just as dark and windowless, with a large coffin and no bed inside. OK, this matched my stereotypical image of vampires again.
