And then, with a flash of light and a surge of energy, the trial began. Chapter 16: The Test of Courage As the traveler stood before the guardian's trial, he felt a sense of anticipation coursing through his veins. He knew that the trial would test his courage and resolve, pushing him to the limits of his abilities. With a deep breath, he stepped forward and faced the first challenge—a series of illusions that sought to deceive and disorient him. But the traveler was not so easily swayed, his mind sharp and his spirit unyielding in the face of adversity.

“Guila!” I called out, my voice trembling with disbelief and shock, as I found myself utterly stunned by the sight before me. It was undeniably Guila standing there, right in front of my eyes, and my heart seemed to skip countless beats in response. The deafening symphony of gunfire came to an abrupt halt as Antonio, equally dumbfounded and bewildered as I, urgently signaled his men to cease fire. Even the formidable Triad members, their weapons still raised, appeared momentarily paralyzed by the unexpected turn of events.

The Guardian's arm bent the wrong way. The second soldier attacked immediately. Luca sidestepped. Grabbed the man's shoulder. Used his momentum against him. And slammed him headfirst into a tree. The impact sounded painful. Extremely painful. The third Guardian hesitated. Just for a second. Just long enough. Luca drove an elbow into his throat. The armored soldier collapsed instantly. Three Guardians. Less than ten seconds. Done. Yet Luca wasn't smiling. Wasn't relieved. Because something felt wrong. Very wrong.

Hunter’s eyes shifted from the gun to Guiller, his fists clenching at his sides. "I don’t have time to kill you right now—I’ve got bigger things to deal with. But if you still want to end it all, go ahead," Guiller said before turning and walking out with Antonio’s men. Hunter stood there, frozen, watching Guiller’s back as he disappeared through the door. “How’d it go?” Don Antonio asked when Guiller got into the car where the elder was waiting. “He’ll come around," Guiller said confidently. “Any updates on Lady Aleah?” he asked, shifting the conversation.

another soldier began, turning his rifle under his chin in a grim resolution. Bang! The gunshot ricocheted, missing the soldier’s head entirely. A scarred, wax-covered hand had intervened, knocking the barrel off target. The figure behind it was imposing, muscles tense with the bearing of authority—a Baron. Others flanked him, igniting a flamethrower that roared to life with infernal light. A sheet of flame erupted, forming a searing barricade that incinerated the moths attempting to follow. The roaring blaze illuminated the Baron’s features: it was Gazier.

Leni gasped in surprise and stared in horror but Roque threw himself in front of Leni and got hit by the ball of holy flame. Roque fell to the ground, unconscious. Serra could still feel a speck of life left on his body. The heavenly fire punishes the deserving. Leni stared at Serra with hateful eyes. "What are you" Leni whispered. Serra didn't answer. "Can it be?" a Badblood whispered behind Leni. Then suddenly, Serra's sword vibrates. She looked around and there in the distance were Reapers coming to their direction. "Reapers!" a winged Badblood shouts.

Leaving me completely gobsmacked and standing gawping like a complete moron. He knows how to push my buttons alright; anger buttons, and I am fuming as horny heat is replaced with fiery anger. I just blink at him, my heart pounding, pride wounded and a tiny tremor of rage simmering inside of me like a dull ember trying to catch alight. Breathing hard and just locked on that gaze in a silent war of ‘who the fuck do you think you are?’ Carrero is an utter fucking arsehole of epic proportions. He is no gentleman at all!!!

Guerra smirked, looking directly into Jun's raised up face. Jun suddenly growled, throwing away two of Guerra's friends that were holding her side by side, "Now, I am standing up for myself and you can't bully me anymore!" She gave another deep growl, her eyes flickered to her wolf's which shocked the hell out of Guerra that she fell to the floor - when did she have a wolf?

Suddenly, Roberto called out from the darkness. "Captain Terry!" His voice was sharp, cutting through the stillness of the night as figures began to emerge from the surrounding trees. Captain Terry, a hardened guerrilla leader known for his ruthlessness, stepped forward, flanked by his men. They had come running at the sound of the explosions, ready to assist. Terry’s sharp eyes immediately took in the situation—the defeated Japanese soldiers, the bodies strewn about, and the few captives still alive. His jaw clenched with grim satisfaction.

the captain said, his voice trembling. Closer now, the chanting rose, a wave of sound that shook the ground itself. “Guerrero Valanti! Guerrero Valanti! All hail Guerrero Valanti!” The cries echoed off walls and rooftops, reverberating through the city. The earth quaked beneath their feet. Lucia stepped back, clutching the railing. “Oh no… he survived,” she whispered. “This… this cannot be real.” She turned to her soldiers. “Arm yourselves! Prepare! He must not enter the gates!”
