She was in a white coat, standing at the workbench. Her long dark-chestnut hair was pinned up carelessly, a few loose strands at her cheeks. In front of her were rows of complex test tubes and screens of flickering data, and she was in an intense discussion with a few colleagues.
She spoke fast, technical terms rolling off her tongue, clear and forceful. Now and then she picked up a marker and wrote out a complicated chemical formula on the whiteboard, and the senior researchers beside her nodded, over and over, admiration in their eyes.
