An hour of listening to the old rusted engine of my grandmother's car— like the stranger had mocked me last night. I shivered at the thought of him. Thinking of him wasn't going to do my marriage any good. He was my past now, and it had to stay that way. "Good morning, Mrs. Michelle Constantine." I greeted the woman who sat behind the desk. She seemed to be going through some documents when her eyes reached up to me. "And you are...?" She tilted her head to the side in askance. "Lyla..." I said, beginning to feel nervous. Right now, she needed to focus on her and Ray. She wanted to look nice for Ray, so she went into her closet and picked out one of her favorite dresses. It was a backless halter dress in the color emerald green that came to just below her knees. She picked out a pair of black strapless sandals. She didn’t need any fancy footwear. The ceremony would be held at the pack field and she wouldn’t actually need shoes. She wouldn’t need clothes either, but she had no intention of showing up in front of Ray’s pack naked. She’d keep her clothes on in public until absolutely necessary, thank you very much.

The door to the cell flung open and a big and broody guy walked in with a few syringes in his hand and a guard that stood at the entrance of the cell. “It’s your lucky day little girl, we’re going to give you a little bit of silver and wolfsbane to see how your little body suffers” he says with a chuckle

I said, reaching for my phone. “What are you saying?” Allen snapped. “This isn't Joan…why would I be sleeping with your wife?” “Then ask her to take off her mask,” I shouted. “She can have the voice but not the face.” Allen turned to the lady. “I am sorry but she can't, this isn't Joan and that is what matters…what are you doing?” I moved closer to the girl but Allen stepped in the way. “She is my mistress…nothing more.” “I can't believe you actually have a mistress…I am putting an end to this charade…I am calling that Old man to explain that his granddaughter didn't do anything.”

“Yes. I don’t know how, but… I heard you say I’m brave, and that I’m safe here.” Calista’s mouth fell open, but before she could respond, the door creaked open, and the healer came in carrying a bowl of herbal soup usually given to the wolves who have just given birth. Sable was a small, wiry woman in her late 50s with sharp eyes that missed nothing, and she had a calming presence that had been a godsend during the chaos of my labor. “Sable,” Calista said, her voice still laced with shock. “Lyra just… she said she can hear my thoughts.”

Knox muttered. He stepped out into the hallway. Lydia’s room was right beside his. The door looked untouched, lights inside dim. He knocked once. No response. Twice. The room greeted him with soft pink hues, delicate decor, and a scent that was uniquely Lydia—lavender, warm pine, and something he couldn't quite place.

The woman in her thirties smiled politely, hanging on my every word. "I'll need shoes too, black preferably.." I paused, distracted by the clicking of a woman's heels on the flooring.
